Windshield Washer Problem

Post by motroman »

Greetings: I'm new here and also the new owner(since January) of an 89E24. Since the purchase, I've rebuilt the brake system, suspension, steering, cooling system, replaced the differential, and repaired numerous switches and handles. One of the relatively minor things left to do is figure out why my windshield washer system only draws fluid from the small reservoir and not the big one by the radiator. Any clues you can give me are greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the madness!

Is the pump in the primary reservoir working?

Or, are the one-way valves installed?

Thanks everyone. I didn't know there was a separate pump in the front reservoir. I'll check it out and the valves too.

If the pump is bad, you can easily adapt one of these pumps from NAPA (which is also a direct-fit to the intensive reservoir), and costs ~$15.

I found the check valves on Amazon

IIRC on an '89 the plumbing is simpler and not quite as per my diagram in the thread linked to above; the nozzles in the bonnet (hood) combine the intensiv and main feeds, as well as have a check valve function. Apart from that there are just T pieces in each line.

cheers
