What is this?

What is this and why isn't it hooked up (1987 M6 - S38)?

Also, what normally comes out of this hole?

Thanks

Those wires are solid brown, right?

That's means they are grounds. Ground them :)

For the other, I dunno. I'll look at mine later, but it's a euro, so...

Cheers,

Ray

Thanks Ray.

I'm just getting started with this car, and I find that over the course of 30 years there have been many modifications to the wiring loom, most of which were subsequently abandoned... So I'm removing wires that don't go anywhere, push on taps (I hate those things), and remants of old stereo systems.

You're right they are brown, I'll keep looking for a likely termination point. Hopefully there is a screw missing because that would make more sense than someone intentionally lifting an earth wire!

For the first picture- I would ask, where do those two wires come FROM? This may help you figure out where they should go. I don't have my 87 635 here or I would go look at it for both pics. May not help as the M6 may be different.

For the other pic, that's where this plastic tube goes ;-)

Hmm. Chrome keeps crashing when I try to post the pic...

The plastic tube is for the hydraulic control of the headlight aiming system, that which was not offered on 'murrican cars. ;-)

Cheers,

Well, I can't honestly say that I am disappointed that the hydraulic headlights didn't make it to my car 8) Guessing they would be defunct, replaced by now anyway, much like the self levelling rear suspension.

Thanks for the insight!

I'd wager less that 5% of the federalized cars made it through without the system being gutted. Mine is a carcass.

:)

Ok, I un-embiggened the photo. Here it is....

Without doubt, they are Earth (ground) wires.

Looks like the brown wires should be connected to a bolt at the bottom of that ABS module... under those red wires, that's where mine go.

Thank you so much, Brickwhite! I was at my wit's end trying to figure out where these go. I mean, any good ground point would work, but I wanted to know specifically. I've just pulled the coolant expansion tank for other work so I'll dig in to the ABS area there.

Cheers
