Rear Muffler Delete

Post by TomMan7531 »

Hi...think this is right section :)

Has anyone removed the attached part from the exhaust on a 635csi, part 18121176338, does it sound nice/too noisy???

P.S Might have one coming up for sale in the UK soon if someone wants it :D

TomMan, board moderator here, gonna move you to the mechanical section :-k

The workshop is really for setting up your workspace, picking out lifts and compressors, that sorta thing \:D/

BTW, I personally would not recommend removing either the rear muffler or center resonator, again speaking personally [-(

What are you trying to "gain" anyway :-?

I have an E12 euro car without cat and currently no muffler. It is too loud and the car doesn't have the same torque as before due to no back pressure via the exhaust system.

Okay thanks guys, didnt think of loss of pressure. As of what I'm after I suppose a little more growl from it, I find the standard system doesn't do a lot for noise.

I mean have you ever taken the whole system off, sounds like a chopper :P 8)

Other suggestions for more growl?

Supersprint. But it'll cost you; lots more expensive than taking parts off your car. :D

Very happy with Fritz system.

Lots of growl. In fact, more like a howling banshee.

TomMan
For some reason I just noticed your post about a muffler system! Actually, I had no computer till 2 months ago!
I fail to understand spending $700 to $1200 bucks for a system. I took my Buster, who is a Euro E12, to a reputable muffler shop; got under Buster & guided the mechanic while installing a race style 2" system by asking him to put the forward pipe inside the rearward pipe. Starting at the Calif. Cat. & deleting the middle resonator, going out the rear through a 6" muffler.
He now has a very deep, throaty growl; just what I wanted for $300 bucks! =D>
I posted this a few years ago but, I don't know how long the moderators keep this info.
Hope this helps.

I recently replaced my exhaust and use only the rear muffler. I like the sound!

+1 on the fritz system but note the rear box hangs down a bit like a ball bag. (I chopped mine down). I doubt would disappoint

Prior to this I ran a home made system consisting of a couple short resonators running into a single 2 into 1 central edelbrock, back to 2 pipes all the way back. This sounded the business around town (set off car alarms) but way too much drone on a trip.

On the other hand, with the help of the right cam you could sound like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BpR12ngmyA

AAWWW! You guys are too much! Thanx for the welcoming committee! =D> \:D/
Here's my story:
I stupidly let someone into my computer using 123 something or other & they wanted to charge me $300 for a years worth of protection! NOPE, not me! Sooo, long story short, they locked me out of my computer! On my Social Security and retiree money (which I didn't plan well for), I had to wait because other things tended to get in the way!
In the meantime I didn't know home HP computers became so cheap! I was thinkin' over a grand but, nooo, only $500! At least at Frye's Electronics! I depended on other people a little too much to get my old unit rebuilt, which killed alotta time too.
Guess what, the very same jerks tried it again to no avail!! I use Norton. Take heed!!

While we're here, Does any one of you know about the guy recently designing & selling E24 printed shirts? I sorta reserved 2 XXL's & want to keep in touch. I need a way to communicate with him. He posted here somewhere. He even asked me if I still wanted my shirts, but, I don't remember who he is! #-o

Greg, that guy bailed out on the T-shirt offer, as he only wanted to deal in cold hard cash, weird

In fact, I haven't seen him on the board at all

Anyhoo, welcome back, sounds like you went through quite some issues [-X
