TANK custom fuel tank
I'm glad to see this forum is still active and there are people left to offend. The stock tank on my car had inherent design flaws. with 3 bolts mounting the tank at the seams it's only a matter of time before it starts leaking. I could buy a new fuel tank from Wallothnesch but where's the fun in that? For the past 2 months I've been working with an off road shop to build a tank that will actually last. Its composed of 0.125" mild steel on the walls and "central flange". 14 gauge top and bottom. Then will come galvanization. It weighs about 40lb... Thoughts?

Interesting. What does the stock tank weigh in at?
Are you adding extra capacity?

Cheaper than Wallothnesch. And more rear weight . Probably slightly less capacity. Petrol weighs 6.3lb/gallon. I'm not worried about the threads ripping out of the nutplates.

Appropriately for the year, it's 76 LBS with zinc plating. This has cost me $715 and will outlast the vehicle. Takes fuel through a 1.5 NPT fitting. A small downside is that it took 4 months for the back and forth with the fabricator as I mocked it up. POR 15 tank sealer. The sides of the tank are built with 1/8" steel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4VmRiDuIwM

Re: TANK custom fuel tank
I want this too, but I want it in the form of the Alpina extra capacity tank of the B7 turbos. Do me a favour and get the dimensions of this tank from someone with a genuine Alpina B7 turbo and make replicas. Alpina won't provide their workshop fab drawings for it (I've asked), so it needs reverse engineering from someone who has the genuine cars.
I wanna be able to carry 119 litres of fuel (I have the 9 litre spare wheel mounted auxiliary tank jerry can as well), but there are no genuine Alpinas with the extended range tank in Australia to get the dimensions from.
