M6 e24 Motor mounts

Post by 88m6 »

Just a few things noted while changing pass. mount that had not read on any other DYI's(none really specific to m6)
Used the oil pan lift method n went well but I barely had enough room to remove n replace with my lift max extended, even with 2x4 between pad n pan. Especially when replacing as new mount was a tad taller as not having been compressed for 30 years!
So ,depending on lift you might want to up to 4x4 or double 2x4. 1/4 " extra would have been great.

Also I needed to loosen fan shroud's top two screws so it would move back over the fan blades as they were binding on shroud on its way up.
Also, ripped boot from air box to plenum , so might want to either remove or loosen one side of boot so it will move with engine or possible remove fastening screws for airbox so it will move up. Have a new boot coming already.
Also don't forget to remove ground strap from firewall to valve cover nut, not much flex room on that wire.
That's it, about an hours work as I had to wrestle the new mount in.

FYI, be careful lifting the engine with the oil pan.

When you do, you compress the gasket more than it needs to be and may start to leak.

Better to do it this way.
