Oil change before or after winter lay-up
I'll be putting my E9 to bed for the winter in the next few weeks, should I change the oil now, or wait until Spring?
Many big jobs to do over winter, so unlikely to be a wheel turned until march
Cheers

Personally, I’d leave it until Spring.

I change oil on my 635CSi in the fall just after a good highway sprint to get the oil hot. I store my car for 5-6 months as winters are long where I live. I have only 1200km on the oil in the car but I worry about acid oand other contaminants in the oil even with those low KM's so perhaps I am overly cautious.

Contaminants.....
Like you I've only got a few 100 miles on the oil, but it does run quite rich, so probably a bit of unleaded in the sump
Not sure I'm going to get the chance to do the job any time soon, autumn just arrived with a few inches of rain, and I'd always want to do a run before and after. So benefits are getting clean oil on the bearings over winter, downside is the new oil is going to sit and sit and sit

Rain? It ha s been snowing off and on for about 3 days here. No salt on the roads yet so I still have time. I have Valvoline 20/50 Racing in the Bimmer so I may change it out and save it for my Mercedes 190E as it is still useable in my opinion.

+1 Fall oil change. Why leave janky oil in the engine? Besides, you'll have a lot more to do in the spring like wash and wax.
