Fuel smell in cabin

Post by imissedtheapex »

hello Gruppe,

I have an 87 M6 and noticed that after i filled her and went for a drive, there's been a pretty strong fuel smell inside the cabin. Some searching here among 635s shows that it could be a loose clamp on the cold start injector but does the S38 have this as well? I don't see fuel dripping under the car and I removed the passenger side rear seat and there is no wetness. I have to remove the driver's side too which I'll do later today. Any common issues that I should look for that could cause this? I've checked all the hoses on the injector rail as well and everything is try.

The three pipes very often rust where they meet the tank. With a full tank, you will get some leakage which will produce the smell as the fuel sloshes around.

+1 Also just check every rubber hose. They can also get porous with age.
