instrument dials flickering

Post by Theantony »

Hi.

My Instrument dials mainly the temperature and petrol gauge are flickering like mad at times. If i give the dash a bang they settle then flicker again. Im wondering if its just an earth issue, if so where would I find that ground. I have soldered a battery extension to the si board which was in pretty good shape.

Thanks

Antony.

Based on your description, I would say it is an earth/grounding issue.

+1, but of you can smack the side of the dash and things settle briefly, it could be any number of loose connections :-k

Sorry to say, but it does sound like you're gonna have to get in there and start poking around, check and reseat electrical connections, etc. :-?

Clean all the grounds, not just for the cluster. There is a grounding group under the dash, on the bulkhead side of the intake manifold and near the battery.

Check your fuse contact points also. The barrel fuses are worse than the later blade style. Poor contact will cause electrical anomalies when you drive over bumps. Get contact cleaner and spray your switches, relays and fuse box.
