VDO Gauges

Post by Tim Bradham »

Hello, was wondering if anyone has replaced the factory gauge cluster with individual VDO gauges... I’ve got a ‘82 Euro, and was thinking of doing it, being mine needs fixing... Any pro/cons would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tim

Nice! Was there anything special about what gauge inputs that are needed for our 6's? Like certain ohms and such.... Thanks Tim

Yes and no if that makes sense.

The aftermarket gauges use their own senders. My speedo (ST700 unit) picks up from one extended lug bolt on drivers side front. Most of the OBC functions die, except clock and o/s temp - which are all I ever use.

Was difficult for my auto sparky to maintain the ABS warning light but he managed it, however the throttle needs a blip after starting to extinguish both the ABS and ignition lights.

Notice I maintained the factory warning lights, indicators etc.

Tried a couple of settings to get the fuel gauge working more or less the same as factory but certainly ins't linear.

I also dash mounted a LED dimmer which works in conjunction with the factory dimmer.
