LSD oil drain position

I am sticking the LSD parts that came from the M635 diff with no case into the open diff in my project 635.

Can anyone confirm that the oil drains(if that's what they are) in the flanges should be positioned at the bottom of the diff case?

The open diff, on the left, doesn't have them.

Many thanks,

Rob

Yep, the drain should be on the bottom when mounted.

I'm under the impression that is the oil supply for the bearing. There should be a corresponding tab on the outside that is supposed to be in the up (12 O'clock) position as shown on realoem

Many thanks for reassurance on this Jose. No tab on this diff, Ralph - bearings are identical on non-oil drain open diff too.

Thanks again both,

Hey folks,

Ralph's comment about indexing that hole and tab made me go through the manual. The final drive section mentions nothing about that drain hole, but I found a couple of pictures that sort of let you see the writing on the flanges. I suggest looking at the manual and seeing if you can figure out what direction the writing is facing.

I also looked back at my rear end rebuild document. Pictures during dis-assembly, as well as my note about those drain holes, indicate they were facing down in the differential as it is mounted.
