Need a service manual.

Post by Bhart »

I need a manual for my 1987 US spec M6 with the S38 engine. I got a BMW service manual from the PO but the M6 engine references are all to M88. I'm working on valve adjustment next (exhausts measure tight) and would like to have some decent reference material.

Can anyone suggest some manuals for sale or on-line?

Thanks.

A separate, unique manual for the M6 wasn't published. What is available, is a combined manual for the 635, with a section about the S38, and the 5-speed. Take a look at the links below. I scanned my paper manual, and uploaded to share with the community.

I realize any M6 information will always be an addendum to a manual but your link has the correct S38 chapter, as opposed to my own. I'll print out the relevant pages and substitute them in my manual. Thanks for the links.

Great! Glad it helps.

Maybe you could scan your M88 specific info. and send it to me, or post it for download? I could add it to my manual, and then the community will have the most comprehensive version possible.

I have neither engine, but I'd love to have the information just in case one comes my way.

Books 4 Cars in Seattle has copies of original factory manuals in factory looking blue binders. They have the 635 manual with the M supplement. They are $180. I got my Euro 635 manual from them 12 years ago and paid $125 so in proportion to todays money their prices are what the market calls for. The manuals are exact repro. Copy quality is better than middling but npt perfect and the pictures so so but the info is there. Better than nothing, and again, the factory specs and info are there.

That pretty much describes the paper manual I scanned, Bert. I also used the online manual to print out missing pages, and added the whole rear axle section to my online version.

I sure would like to find that original CD, so we could post the complete, clear .pdf files.

Great info - I'll follow up on the Seattle book store option.

I'll also find a few moments to scan the M88 engine pages I've got - shall I PM them to you Jose and you can add to your file?

That would be awesome Brian! I can overwrite the existing file, so that the links remain correct in the thread.
