I recently replaced the sloppy shifter on my '79 CSi with the Ireland Engineering kit ($140) and it was straightforward. I was done in less than an hour and it is money well spent. The shifts and now crisp, a nice short throw and precise.

I did the same to mine but it still has tons of Side to Side movement.
