265/6 into series one car .

Post by olympia57 »

I'm exploring the fitting of a 265/6 non mechainical speedo gearbox into my auto series one .
There was a kit available from BMW to restropectivly fit the drive , part no. 2321 1 207 772 , but that seems to be discontinued and NLA.

The alternative is to fit a pulse to mechanical drive interface like this but it is all added cost to the already costly project.

One other thought I have is could the electronic speedo and stock pulse generator be fitted into the series one ?

A suitable gearbox with drive for the early cars is quite impossable to source in Ireland or UK now so that option is a non starter .
Has anyone successfully fitted a later 265/6 to a series one and overcame the problem ?

I have a shaft and may know of a new gear wheel but the problem is price. You may be better off financially with the speed box until you find the proper set up. If you can find a discarded 4 speed the speedo drives from one will exactly interchange into the 5 speed gear box and I would think that is the way to go

I've bought E12 diffs from this guy before and he lists this although it says out of stock:

They may have second haand bits in cars to break etc.

My dad also bought some of the open lug replica wheels from them.
