I've acquired a 1985 M30 B34 Euro oil cooling set up.
I want to install it onto my 1986 M30 B34 US.
The internal configurations are different.
The bolt and gasket pattern look the same.
Can I just swap the oil head or will I need to fabricate a mod.
There was a post of a needed mod but that was for an M engine.
Also, could someone explain does the oil always flow to the cooler
or is it controlled somehow?
Thanks for all and any input.

Re: Oil filter heads
I too have a M30B34 with oil cooler. Can't answer your question on the filter head but know they differ as I did replace mine.
The coolers are always open. If you drive in a cold climate, especially short runs I would recommend fitting an oil thermostat - I know Korman sell them. I drive my car all year round but only long runs and it can take 30Km or so for the oil to reach temp, and thats only in a moderately cold winter environment, ie morning frosts and say 8-14 deg C daily highs. When its really cold, oil temp may drop to circa 82-85 when running at open road speeds
I replaced my oil cooler when I rebuilt my engine as I couldn't be sure I could flush it completely so would recommend paying a bit of attention to this.

Re: Oil filter heads
Filter heads are interchangeable for B28, B30, B32 and B34 motors.
I have a couple of the cooler head units and they have a thermostatically controlled port to allow cooling when oil gets to a certain temp. The coolers themselves are always open.

Re: Oil filter heads
Thanks for the info.
The lower photo, the euro head has the bypass and temperature controlled valve.
Looks like a direct swap.
