What an amazing project!!!

That is some seriously fine work there peterpilot =D>

For some strange reason, I thought that you guys drove on the "wrong" side of the road, but I see that she's LHD, to my surprise #-o

Beautiful craftsmanship, you should be very proud of your efforts

My Jagermeister replica Race Car Project

Post by peterpilot »

You are quite correct, we do drive from the right side but to build an authentic replica, I was lucky to find a LHD European model. this makes them more valuable.
I still have to do the bonnet and boot catches (Hood and Trunk), all the wiring, power steering and brake booster (Hydraulic), and a few other bits.
I'm taking a bit of a break at the moment. I 've been going flatout since December..

Thanks Bobbo,
I appreciate all the nice comments you have all sent.
I will still adjust the rear ride height for those who have noticed that its a little high.
Once I have her running and on the track I will certainly post more pics.
Thanks guys,

Seriously?!
...just seriously!

I just barely manage to change spark plugs, oil and filters on my car. And then there's someone that can do all this.
Insane!
As in 'insanely nice work'!

Hey Guys, my project is just about done.
Since the end of August 2015 I have completed the wiring and the plumbing.
I have replaced the standatrd E34 535 engine management with a local system which does away with the AFM, TPS and Idle valve. It simply works on Manifold Vacuum. It is quite popular with the racing fraternity.
I must now get it on a Dyno, get the most ponies out of it and get to the track and have some fun after all my hard work.

I love that engine shot, appears to be so simple compared to a "normal" Motronic controlled mill

Curious about that valve/rocker cover as well, Hartge perhaps :-k

I also love the touch on the high beams, classic =D>

nice work there!

However I have a comment/query about the bonnet vent; I think that when the car is stationary the hot underbonnet air will come out of the RH bonnet vent as you envisage.

However at speed I think the airflow will be in the other direction; that part of the car just in front of the windscreen sees high pressure (which is why the cabin air intake is positioned there, and air rushes into the car at speed even when the fan isn't working). Also the underside of the car is usually at low pressure, so you will probably get top to bottom airflow and a bit less downforce.

Depending on how the vents are arranged at some speeds you might get airflow from the engine bay that leaks into the cabin via the cabin air intake. This usually won't be the end of the world but if there is any exhaust leak you could poison yourself.

BTW late model RHD cars have a RH brake MC; will your exhaust manifold fit those too?

cheers

Hi Brucey, thanks to you and the others for the nice comments.
I'm going to have to experiment with the air flow situation which you correctly question. I will use some tell tails in that area to check the air flow once on the track. I have kept the left side such that I can have some ventilation in the car and I have in fact fitted two flexible pipes to direct air through the centre console area. If I find that I don't have enough air coming in as it gets pretty hot here,I might fit a forward facing air scoop to aid air flow into the car, (over the vent area.) On the other side, I may fit a rearward facing cowl to aid in getting the air out if necessary. However, if the hot air gets out underneath during high speed, then that's fine but I'm astonished how hot it gets when stationary, so at least under these conditions a great proportion of the heat can just rise out of that side vent and not cook the bonnet paint too much. So a bit of experimentation will have to be done. I'll report back on that eventually.
About the exhaust branch: this one is in fact from a series 1, 6 series RHD which is a bit of a waste, so I will be making another for the race car and this one can be put to good use on a RHD. I have a series 2 84 model as well and I have made a branch for that and it is well clear of the MC. It can be viewed in one of my previous posts. I'm not sure and have not checked yet if this one on the race car will in fact clear the anti-roll bar on the later model. I have used an X3 anti- roll bar on the race car which is originally a series 1, but the position is not necessarily in the exact position behind the front wheels, as the series two. So I need to do some fine measuring.
I will be making RHD (equal length) exhaust branches available if there is enough interest shown on this site, as they really make a difference. I'm retired from flying now so I need to make myself useful in other areas.

Apologies to the others who have asked questions an have not yet received replies. I'll try to get around to that
Cheers for now, Peter

Hey Guys, I'm still alive!
It's been a hectic year. Had the race car out a few times and only had had minor teething problems.
The money has sorta run out so I'm taking it easy and repairing other people's Sixes.
Had our Annual BMW Club concourse and as it is 100 years for BMWit was 35 years for our club her in Johannesburg.
Next to my car is the first 6 series replica race car built in this country. A year before mine.
