Well, thats it for now but hoping to continue with the front end later this spring.
I will also need to replace the rear wheel bearings and abs sensors - but I can do that near the end when I finally place back the brakes.
Oh, and all the new fuel lines and brake lines still need to be placed back - again for a later date.

Kev, This is awesome. I missed this project posting somehow. Very nice metal work and rustproofing/painting work. Looks better than new. This gives me inspiration to ( maybe ) tackle the rust on my old rustbucket e24.

I am wondering about the fuel pulse damper thing you have installed right at the fuel pump/filter/ reservoir. Is this where these were normally installed? I found one of these in the engine bay of my e12 and was just going to toss it.I thought the general consensus was these things weren't really necessary any more. Just curious.

Also I just partially replaced the fuel lines on my e12. They were badly rusted at the back of the car all in and around the rear subframe. You are obviously well past the point of having the rear subframe out but I would suggest its a hell of a lot easier to get those lines in with the subframe and everything else out of there. I wasn't fun jamming it all in there.

Anyways great work, that car is so clean its going to be a shame to get it all dirty.

Thanks.

Well observed ...
As already mentioned by Ron, the damper is not really necessary ... but, it was always there on the car so I decided to retain it.
Actually, when reviewing the ETK, the damper (in this position) seemed to be present on a 1986/09 model upwards - but my car is actually a 1985/09 model, so was a little confused but assumed that maybe the damper was added as a later modification by BMW early in the car's life.

I am more than happy to drop the rear suspension again when it is time to fit both the fuel and brake lines, nothing has been torqued yet.
I needed to move the car and so had to get it mobile on the ground again - as I wanted to get the M3 back in the garage as well.
Once the resto to the front of the car is complete then all the lines can be fitted.
I already have the new lines, again all prepped and painted in POR silver topcoat, and hopefully use of a proper ramp at my local Indie to make life easy for final assembly.

For any eagled-eyed observers ... the bracket that connects both the fuel tank and guard to the chassis should be underneath (well, according to my original pics prior to the resto) but I perfer it this way, saying that I may revert back when time to fit the exhaust again.
Also, the rubber gromets (spacers) have been incorrectly fitted and need to be swapped round so they rest against the fuel tank - this is what happens when you rush things.

Also, regarding all the non-painted new nuts/bolts/clips/brackets etc ... Eastwood paints (bought from frost) do a bare-metal clear coat which is perfect for long-term protection.

Right OK sounds good. I don't think I would ever do the fuel lines again without dropping the subframe. It worked out but it was a pain in the ass. Theres always something in the way. I'm actually at the point of replacing the exhaust heat shield on the e12. I guess now I have to paint it like yours!
And I also just clearcoated the tank fasteners to try and make them last. Mind you they aren't nice new ones like yours just cleaned up old hardware. Again great work Kev, will be following. Thx for posting , very good pics

Yeah, either the parts are not available anymore or now priced at extremely amusing (high) prices.
Take the brackets that hold the fuel filter and pump, a new top bracket was just £10 from BMW so great I will have one of those, a new bottom bracket was £60 so not great and decided to restored the one I already had as it was just surface rust.
