My $2,500 Royal Blue M6
She needs a lot of work. I know y'all want pics so here you go:
I bought it from the second owner and am getting it towed this weekend. Hasn't run or moved in 18 months. This should be a good financial decision.

At that price have you checked there is an engine under the bonnet (sorry hood).

Well I had fun today after a quick jet to Austin for the Lone Star Le Mans.
Begin clean up
How do people live like this?
Grimy
The M badge on the radiator was a nice touch
I charged the battery and hooked it up. Saw the dash was lit up as if the key was on and then saw the ABS module go up in smoke and heard a loud whirring
Then saw flames down between the air box and PS reservoir
Ran over and unhooked battery to investigate. ABS and cruise harness is pretty fried. Oh well. Maybe I can get it started next weekend.

Let me politely suggest that before you get voltage flowing again that you replace all the fuel hoses and coolant hoses. Then check all grounds and connections. Looks like a lot of corrosion there that raises the resistance on any circuit where it is present
Then deal with your ABS module and any toasted wiring.
Be safe. You don't want a new (to you) burnt offering to the M-God.

Hey, Taco.
One procedure I highly recommend is to drain your fuel tank into a container. If it comes out funky, but not rusty then you can flush. If rust or particulate comes out, you will need to pull the tank and clean it. An old school cleaning method is to remove the fuel pump, then dump in some kerosene with a nice section of chain, plug all openings, hang it by ropes so you can tumble it and then shake it all around for a good long while. I prefer to shake around for 10 mins., then take a beer break. Rinse and repeat a good 5 or 6 times. I like to add delicious grilled proteins into my breaks. Granted it takes longer, but it's way more enjoyable).
When done, that tank will have all the loose muck ready to dump out. Give it a couple kerosene rinses and then think about how to rust proof the inside. I know some people have reported good results from some of the newer epoxy products, but I prefer galvanizing or pickling compounds.
When you trust the tank to be in good shape, reinstall everything change out the fuel filter and disconnect your fuel pressure regulator. Setup a funnel/hose to catch fuel coming out of the rail and then jump the fuel pump circuit with 12V to flush the fuel line.
Next thing would be to have the injectors cleaned. Then your fuel system will be ready to go.

While he's at it...Good idea to drain the oil (who knows what that looks like). Inspect the air filter and the state of the front door on the AFM (in case it's gummed up) Take out the spark plugs...color will surely indicate how the thing ran. Wouldn't hesitate to change out the cap and rotor either. Good spark always helps!sansouci wrote:Let me politely suggest that before you get voltage flowing again that you replace all the fuel hoses and coolant hoses. Then check all grounds and connections. No chance you're looking to make a Quick buck? I'd take it off your hands for $5000.
All kidding aside... $2.5k... Cars listed in Sweden tend to go for at least $20k - albeit in running and driving condition.
Congrats on the find!

Big Taco:
You can have your Bilsteins rebuilt by Bilstein itself.
Here's the #858)386-5900 for info. May or may not be cheaper?
Great find & good luck,,,,Greg
PS: And yes, change EVERY belt and EVERY hose.
PPS: And I'm glad to know you went to Austin; we'll talk later.
