Just saw this, but I am now looking thru some of your photos. The main differences I can find are that you have the spoiler and the rear headrests. On one of your other vehicles, the euro side markers are integrated into the bumper. Idk how I feel about that. Do you know if that was a importer specific thing?

Yes, on my Zobelbraun 628csi, the side light markers are installed in the bumpers. To me this is ideal for a euro example that needed to be federalized for USA. The best is to NOT have any side light markets as this is original Euro style. When the euro cars are brought over to US, importers were required to "hack" holes into the side of the cars front and rears. This is the worst thing ever.

There are a few clean euro style cars still out there, but hard to find without the ugly side markers. I missed out on a couple M635csi that was untouched by federalizations. Still kick myself for being too slow to buy them 8 years ago.

Mine snuck through customs in Miami without the ugly side markers. Only things it got were the sealed beam lights (wired incorrectly), a placebo charcoal canister (no vacuum lines), and US instrument panel and OBC (which I m just now correcting.) First day home. August 12, 2014:

I am correcting my sealed beam headlamps as well with some proper H1/H4 headlamps. I will be installing kohito low/high beams and a set of French yellows for the high beam lenses. I just now mounted a new set of Borbet rims on the car which are a major improvement and are period correct; although not stock like (BBS would fit that box). The bumpers are off to have the chrome re-done and to be re-painted. It also needs some bodywork.

Headlamps

Making some progress on my new headlamp setup. Now I just need to wire in the connectors for the bulbs. I'm also going to try and tuck the rest of the wires going to that part of the harness.

Be aware, I believe that the bumpers are not chrome, but anodized aluminum. The Euro bumpers may indeed be chrome, though. I have none to compare.

Headlights

Post by SenorShark »

Pretty much finished on the headlamp wiring and install. I thought/was told that the high beams were self-grounding, but do not appear to be. They have direct power, but will not illuminate along with the high beam portion of the outer lights. Relays work as they should and the wiring is well tucked. Things should be wrapped up tomorrow.

What did you do to replace the rotted muffler? I have a similar (but not so severe) condition. I will have my local muffler shop try to weld that gap. Alternative two is JB Weld or similar. Last solution will be a replacement rear which would not be OEM

I had it welded by a shop in Waco, Tx. No leaks thus far from it.

bumper brackets

Post by SenorShark »

To update, I finally found a right euro bumper bracket in stock and am repairing the left bracket as I could not find it anywhere. If anyone wants a link to the right I can send it to you. The rust is being dealt with and I have the seats out for cleaning.

I used a product called lexol and it has two stages. They came out great! I'm going to put a couple of additional coats of conditioner on.
