Leather seats are a bitch in the heat and humidity of Florida. My car's a Euro, and I'd be so happy if it had the cloth seats. Wait until you find out the truth about E24 A/C :D

When they say "no sliders" what exactly does that mean - that the seats aren't adjustable front to rear? Or, do the Recaro's have the sliders and the Wedge Brackets are just adapters between those sliders the car floor?

Keep in mind that Germany is generally a cool country therefore back in the day, the engineers spent less time making the cabin like a GM-cooled meat locker and more time on the engine.....

There are some fixes, and plenty of A/C threads to browse here, on bimmerforums.com, and mye28.com. The quick answer is, update to a modern Sanden-type compressor, install a parallel-flow condensor with improved fan, increase the airflow to the intakes of the evaporator fans, and stick with R12 (or R152a) as a refrigerant. Window tinting will also help a great deal.

Awesome! Just read an entire thread on bimmerforums. I think ill be able to handle this once I get to it. Thanks!
Now its time to drop the rear sub-frame, replace all the bushings, rebuild CV Axles, and change the seals on the diff! Progress coming soon! If you guys have any pointers please let me know! We are all bringing this car back to life! Thanks! 8) 8) 8)

Dropping the Rear Subframe for Rebuild!

Hey guys just a quick update.

Cut the exhaust off last nite as its was all rusted out. Went ahead and disassembled all the components connected to the rear subframe so I could drop it and rebuild it. Went to remove the bolts for the driveshaft and THEY WONT COME OFF!!!!      . Hit them with some PB Blaster and tried it later and still nothing. Im afraid to round off the nut so I just left it alone. Any tricks for this would be greatly appreciated. Also found the metal plate that is on the diff letting me know which type of diff I have. Can anyone let me know whether is an LSD or not? Thanks.

Re-Wrapping Wire Harness

After I couldn't drop the rear subframe I decided to go ahead and clean up the engine bay wire harness! A rag with some soap and water go a very long way. Ended up going to bed at 3AM EST and finished up the rest today. Rewrapped pretty much everything and it came out really nice! :D :D :D . Feel very accomplished today! Tomorrow I'll give that driveshaft another shot....really need that thing off! I also have a mystery wire that was hanging by the front bumper on the driver side. Anyone have any idea what it's for?

Thanks guys!

Progress is great.

The diff is 3.91 ratio non-LSD. Use a 6-point wrench for the driveshaft bolts. I've had to cut (grind) them off before!!

The connector by the front bumper looks to be for the Outside Air Temp Sensor.

Thanks for the quick response Ralph! Air Temp Sensor Wire - Check \:D/ .Gonna give the nuts a try with a 6-point wrench, if I get nothing then I'm cutting them off!

Rear Subframe DROPPED!

I tried to remove the rear subframe again and ended up breaking one loose and having to cut one off because it was so badly rounded off. Got on google and looked up removing rusty bolts. Video came up and said to just heat them up and they expand and they will come loose. Ran to AutoZone and EVERYONE needs to invest in a blow torch. That was the best $20 I've ever spent. I heated up the nuts and got a wrench and one by one they all came off. Dropped the subframe and now I'm getting ready for the rebuild! I have a 3.91 Non-LSD is it worth searching for a 3.91 LSD and swapping it in or is it not worth it?

Thanks guys!

Hey guys,
I can't seem to keep the battery charged for more than 8-9 hours. There is a draw on Fuse 21 which is the glove box, interior light, trunk light, etc, etc. There is no radio installed, the OBC doesn't turn off even when the car is off, glove switch and trunk light are functioning correctly. I have no idea what "instruments" are and how to check if the draw is coming from there. I searched some topics with similar issues and I decided to check my voltage regulator....   ...the two contacts were down to almost nothing! I just ordered one so hopefully this helps. I don't understand how this would take care of the battery drain though.. :-k :-k . Any wisdom or light on this issue would be truly helpful! Thanks Guys!

The Voltage Regulator...

"Squealing on Start and Acceleration"
When car is running there is a massive squealing sound upon acceleration coming from the alternator. Is this also due to the voltage regulator?

"Mystery Wire"
Can someone please tell me what that wire is towards the top that is headed into the firewall? It was just randomly laying around with no connection on the end. Thanks!

Thanks alot guys!
The reason why your OBC etc does not turn off is the hazard light switch. To make sure, disconnect the hazard light switch and a lot of things will turn off. I know it sounds crazy but that's where the problem is. Along with the OBC is your radio, windshield wipers amongst other things that stay on. For the glove box or the trunk, touch the light bulb to find out who the culprit is. You can either put a video camera in the glove box and the trunk to film you closing. If you happen to have a very small friend, you can use him/her.

Wow. The Hazard Switch? :-k.. ](*,) ](*,) I'm going to plug the OBC back in and see if it turns off when I pull the hazard switch. Is the fix to the problem to purchase another Hazard switch? I have another one stowed away if that's the case.

Thanks for the knowledge Hefeweizen!

Hey guys,

Turns out that the hazard switch had no effect on the OBC turning off when the car was off. Thanks again.

Quick Update:
Today I did some light electrical work and replaced the Airbag sensor connectors that were extremely brittle. The end results are great IMO. I soldered, wrapped in electrical tape, and shrink wrapped all the connections. I think it would definitely be a good fix for those connectors. The airbag wires were easy to distinguish the positive and negative polarity . The speed sensor wires however have no voltage running through them and the wires are the same exact colors! Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Luc

Just a good guess, but I believe the ABS wires don't have any voltage when the wheels aren't turning. The sensors have a pulse voltage generated through them as the wheels spin and the teeth on the hub pass by the sensor. The ABS works by looking at the difference in the frequency of the pulses from each wheel. At least that's how I think it works.

And that's exactly what I was thinking! I'll just solder on the wheel sensor connectors today. Thanks!

PARTS UPDATE!!!!

Hey guys! I know its been a while since any updates but school has reared its head into my summer, so I have to balance a lot of things. I purchased some parts that I desperately needed for the shark. Big thanks to Charlesm3 who is parting the 633csi. I am in the process of rebuilding the rear sub frame. I had intentions of purchasing a 3.25 or 3.73 LSD and swapping it out but I cant find one for a decent price so I'll swap it out when I decide to do the auto to manual swap. I wanna drive this car around before I dump thousands of dollars into it!!! 8) 8) 8) . Pic of the parts I purchased! Stay Tuned.

Hey guys, made some progress.

Subframe Bushings
I was having trouble removing the bushings from the rear subframe. I decided to go ahead and use the sawzall to cut the rubber portion and try to bang it out. Didn't quite go as planned. Went to HF to buy some pullers and a pitman arm so I could build a special tool to remove the bushings but they werent available. Ran into a friend at HF and he told me to set them on fire....  . Well what was there to lose. Rushed home and got my torch and some lighter fluid....    ! Got both bushing out with a little persistence. Sanded down the metal frame and prepped it for paint! Any pointers feel free to let me know! Im thinking of painting the parts Red/Black or Silver/Black so I can spot any leaks instantly. I'll take any suggestion also. Pics Below!

Lots of Work Done

Hey guys, here is an update on the progress thus far!

Painting Rear Subframe and Trailing Arms

I went ahead and cleaned up the suspension parts with Simple Green and scrubbed them down with a brillo pad to get all the dirt loose off. I needed the parts to dry quick so I placed them on top of my home AC fan and they were dry in no time... 8) 8). Hung them up in the yard and primed all the parts up!

Half-Axle Rebuild!!

This job was pretty simple in theory but it took forever! Thanks "pommeree" from bimmerforums! He made a great DIY that guided me straight through the process and came out with great results. I pulled the entire axle apart and let the bearings soak in carb fluid. Cleaned it off as much as I could and went ahead and repacked it with new grease. Placed a light coat Permatex on on the inside of covers and tightened them on!
