Another 633csi refresh, Dynaudio and Dipped

Hello All,

I was lucky enough to purchase this great E24 back in 2014 after a full engine rebuild. The original owner put 200k miles on the engine before sending it off for a rebuilt (all receipts supplied). His best friend sold me the car for a small amount of money with the only request being that I get it back on the road. The original owner loved this car, and I am now enjoying driving this daily.

Since purchasing the car the following parts have been replaced:
- Full exhaust system (factory style)
- Starter
- Flywheel (had to have it shipped in from Germany)
- All rotors and pads
- All fluids flushed
- Multiple Hoses
- 16 part suspension rebuild kit (http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E24-E28-528 ... 0824356105)
- 2nd Oil change
- Many fuses and relays to get all lights, seats, windows and sunroof functioning
- All light bulbs
- Drive shaft rebuild
- Both Axle Shafts replaced
- Passenger exterior door handle
- Windshield wipers
- Rims and tires

Most of the work was done by a BMW technician.

I wanted to plasti-dip the body of the car for a couple reasons.The car still needs body work and a new paint job to make it flawless. The paint is completely damaged from sun and lack of care. Since I am driving this daily and I live in CO (hail, rocks flying all over road, people denting cars in our thin parking spots) I kept it low cost to get it on the road. I have no intentions of showing the car, just driving it.

The sound system was installed by Absolutely Creative Customs in Boulder CO, the kick panels are very well made for a low price and you really can't beat the sound of Dynaudio speakers.

Looks great in my opinion. I like the platidip.

My only word of caution would be on your choice of suspension rebuild kits. I have found that with anything rubber, trunk seals, door seals, engine/transmission mounts, strut mounts, etc... it really makes a difference in quality between say a top of the line name brand such as Lemforder vs the bottom of the barrel brand like URO. The lower price of a kit from an unknown manufacturer will be offset when, in as little as a year, parts begin to fail again. With rubber parts I always stick with OEM or Lemforder. They are more expensive up front but, a better deal in the long run. Just my opinion.

Are you leaving the wheels silver or dipping them as well for a really stealthy look?

MSGGrunt, there are people promoting non rubber material for bushings and mounts, what's your experience with that?

CO84633CSI, who did your passenger door handle work? I have significant challenges on that front so far...

The only experience I have with non rubber bushings are Powerflex front control arm bushings on my wife's X5. Everything I read said they hold up better than even the OEM bushings. Other than that I have no experience.

For the kick panels, it is an automatic so it only really blocks the foot rest. The Sound Quality is worth it to me.

MSG - I agree with you. Nothing is broken but it doesn't feel as good as it should. I have full intentions of replacing it all in the future.

I am not 100% yet on dipping the wheels, I did purchase enough dip to do the wheels in a silver. I was actually at a shop tonight and they were trying to convince me to powder coat them but I really do like them stock finish.

How well did the plastidip apply to the bumpers, I noticed those are painted too. Do you plan on painting any of the chrome bits (grill, tail bezels)?
The more I look at it, the more I like that shade of black and texture. It's like one of those nice flat black primer jobs, how you actually want it to turn out, and not all flat and powdery looking.

Bama - a couple closer images of the bumper for you. I was concerned with dipping the chrome part of the bumpers, but so far (I have been through a full tank of gas and visited the DIY wash bay 1 time) its holding up just fine. I plan on dipping the remaining chrome parts in a different color that leaves it looking like a flat aluminum.

Please keep updated on how it goes on the chrome pieces. I want to dip my tail bezels and re-dip my kidneys and grill surround. My parts didn't turn out near as nice looking as yours have, got any good tips for coating parts like that?
