My two 635CSI

Post by ArneR. »

Hello gents and ladies

I have two of these fantastic cars, but i think one thread is sufficient and easy to update for me.

Both of them are from 1982. Here are some pictures:

Silver Alpina replika. Very low milage. Totally free from rust. Interior and some other bits taken from an original, damaged B7 turbo.

It sits on 17 Alpinas now, but got my hands on these two piece 18" Alpinas.

Image

Want to complete the Alpina look with full set of Alpina stripes. Only test fitted. Need to give the car a proper polish first.

Image

My other E24. Also a 635CSI. This is going to be heavily modified. Bought it very recently. Fresh paint in 2014, but rust repairs before paint was obviously done by a crackhead, so i have done rust repairs on rear plate, and both rear fenders. Now ready for paint. Some pictures first, then i can list the modifications to come.

Tried a set of 19" from a 1-series i have.
Image

How the condition is now. Ready for paint. Both rear fenders and back plate. Removed all chrome lists, and going to remove rear window before paint. Had to weld both rear arches, and both corners under the rear lights. Some bad design from factory it seems also, so the rust starts from inside and go out. Welded holes from antenna on both fenders as well.

Image

This will have a big brake kit from Willwood. 330 rear discs and 360 front discs with willwood callipers.

Image

Because of the big brakes, i will no longer be able to run with the 17" BBS i have. I might go with 19".
So is there anyone in herre who can tell me what tire size, wheel width, and offset to use when using 19"?

Also i have a strong 210 diff to install.

It will be punished by this S38B38 monster

Image

Finished mapped with 1004whp and 1142wNm. With a 3 plated clutch and a big spline 5 speed 530d gearbox. Will have a good fuel system with catchtank and 3 bosch 044 pumps.

Image

Will have the intercooler and radiator custom made to get enough cold air to the engine.

It was VERY expensive. But im not the builder. He talked about paying around US 4000 for the crank alone. The engine was one season in a Extreme BMW E30, and was in a cup called Gatebil(streetcar) extreme in Norway.
But even with slicks, he could not get the power to the ground. A bit to heavy engine, so he swapped for a lighter engine. But still over 900whp.

Love it. Over 1000bhp must be fantastic to drive. Yes power down may be difficult but the e24 chassis can fit some rather large rear tyres.

What's done to the chassis and drivetrain to stop the chassis from separating from it?

The alpina replica looks like it's turbocharged also.

It has Bilstein B6 shocks and H&R lowering springs. It has stronger drive shafts, and it has a diffrential diff now, but i also have a 210 diff i want to fit. Im going to fit thicker sway bars, and need to do a proper inspection on the rear cradle when i take it down for powder coat and new bushings. I probably going to install a half cage, and maybe do some strenghtening around the rear shocks. Not so familiar with the body on these cars, so i need advices.

Big brakes and wide tires will make it stop fast as well.

Unfortunatly the "Alpina" are stock 635 under the bonnet. I have been searching for a b7 turbo engine, but they are very rare to come by.

Got new tires on the 2 piece Alpina wheels. Michelin pilot sport 3. Also painted the insides black before mounting.

Just lowered with H&R, so will sit a bit lower after a few miles.

I have actually never tried the sun roof before. It works perfect, and smooth, but there was some small rust around the drainage, and the list holding the roof liner was rusty as well.

Cleaned up and painted.

Bought new chrome lists around the windows for both cars. Cost a f..... fortune

So now its only a polish away from getting the rest of the Alpina stripes.

I was hoping i could save the silver one with some water sanding and polish, but it has been previous resprayed at some time, and it something must have happened between base coat and clear coat. Because what appeared to me to be schratches in the clear coat, was actually cracks that went all the way down to the base. SO, only option i had was to do a respray of the car. But this time it will be done properly.

Now the car is almost ready for paint. All trims removed, and i also welded the hole from the ugly roof antenna. Im removing all windows, and also doing engine bay.

After removing the front fenders, i found some small rust, so i welded those, and sprayed whole area in acid primer and rust preventive body mass. Also provide a lot of help to the noice from the tires. Did the same on the inside of the fenders

So looking forward to some fresh paint and Alpina stripes on it to get the proper look.
Also got some badges for it. I know Im swearing in the church, but i am planning on to put the proper turbo engine in it as well.
