BMRS Fittings

Post by rhanley 635csi89 »

TBM,
Great post!
Earlier in you post you state the fittings did not fit. You have now worked out the sizes, would you kindly post the part numbers of the BMRS fitting you used as well as the hoses. A simple posting of the invoice would work.
This would help the not so mechanic inclined.

BMRS originally called to say they couldn't do some of the sizes that were on the reservoir. One of the ends has to be ordered from England because I wanted it in black. It looks nice and should work really well.

quick update..

I don't know if I should use the old thermometer housing and just take out the thermostat and make the whole thing look stealth OR fabricate something kinda cool and bespoke. I do need to make a blanking plate for the WP though. I do want it to look stock though without the pulley... I spoke to the Davies Craig guys and they told me I can get rid of the bypass that travels in front of the motor (see diagram) So i will be blanking off the lower portion of the pipe coming off the head (hot side) with a Samco silicon plug.

Thank you TBM for posting photos of the BMRS invoice. I'm looking forward to eliminating the same leaks that have many if us have in this area.
When you have a chance, line 12 was cut off of the photo, kindly list line 12 or update photo.
Did BMRS do the fabrication/assembly for you? Or was it a DYI?
Thanks again for sharing.

BMRS did all the work since I wasn't sure if I would not mess it up. The smaller hose needed custom fabrication so I just paid for all of it.

Small update:

All parts sent to wpc done: pics to follow...

Did some polishing of parts i want zinc chromate coated. Also got a bunch of parts for the trans..seals, gaskets, shims, cage (bloody plastic) bearings...
P.S. still trying to figure out if cage bearings made from molded plastic will be OK..I read they retain oil better and of course are lighter. BUT is the plastic they are made from durable? They are cheaper to make of course (seems to be a shitty trend in all industries) Anyone with some insight please chime in. Cant find anything definitive on net as of yet.

Got some new goodies today:

We've become a dealer for the WPC service now..But i'm more excited to get my parts back after treatment so I can throw them into our Cryo chamber.

Also, got my ceramic bearings back from Performace Bearings!!! TBH, if I would have purchased all my bearings from BMW, even at my discount I would have almost paid the same as having them custom made in ceramic AND I get the 60% reduction in friction...

I also finally got the NLA shift rod back.... So the process was: Find center of rod, Center Grind 5 thou..Hard Chrome 25 thou because of a huge low spot on the front at shift fork end (see circled photo) then center grind back to factory spec... Came out about as expensive as a new factory piece (if it was available) but now it will be WPC'd for much less friction and much much harder than OEM...

small update.

My new parallel flow condenser with Spal mounted. I wanted to make it look like the old tube and fin fitment so we fabricated brackets to fit exactly the same. It's not done yet but it should be done by next week.

Been away for a while and plotting more upgrades../

As I have gotten pieces back from various vendors and ready to put things back I realized that I still don't have enough room to put in a larger plenum that I want.. So the ABS pump is in the way AND because those pesky sensors disintegrated in my hands I need to make a move (LOL I keep telling myself its the only way to get this over with...DO MORE...)

I got parts back from Jay Stratton.. They look phenomenal.. Btw jay also rebuilt my brake booster ...
I also got a bunch of screws and brackets cadmium coated to complete the look...

So here goes nothing...

I am planing to install an MK-60 (from an E46) instead of the original ABS unit.. It is a standalone unit so easily adapted...and the performance is very advanced as compared to my existing unit. It is also compact and will give me the room I need for the plenum.
The first pic is not my car but rather an E30. Its just for reference.

I recently ran across an article in Speedhunters about Spoon Motorsports in Japan and was very impressed with the theory and bought a set as they make them for our cars..

The RK's are great wheels and lite, but watch for cracks where the spokes connect to the barrels. They can fatigue over time. I've had this issue with two sets.

Just got done with my new blanking plate! Took a new water pump and emptied it out. I will plug my Davies Craig electric water pump straight into the inlet. The center hole is plugged with a plug and we used set screws so we don't have any issues.. Also used set screws in the bleed holes.

Thanks!! Gathering parts is both satisfying and sometimes stressful... When you're trying to keep things reversible and also make sure they are functional/an upgrade. You can easily buy things twice.

I do that with project car parts and tools. Buy/bring home stuff, put it away "for safe keeping", then never see them again until years later when I've bought them a second (or third) time.

I'd buy a set of 4 for $100. Way more than zip ties, but looks so much more secure. If you post it separately, you may be able to gauge the members' interest for a group buy. Also use bimmerforums 6-series subforum to spread the word. Otherwise make the blue print available for the DIY machinist crowd.

Dear Ken,

My apologies but I don't have time or the drive to make "kits". I can however help in documenting what needs to be done. I am simply not in the business of making such things.

Give some time and I'll post all the documentation.
