Thanks for the comments! It is fun putting back the parts I've been preparing for the last few months - also all the new parts.

Can anyone confirm the areas which should be painted black? I think they should be; 1. Rear licence plate surround. 2. Boot (trunk) gutter. 3. Sills. 4. Roof trim gutters - up and over within the line of the plastic moulding.

Definitely the rear licence plate surround.

I think the other areas were body coloured.
They are ALWAYS rustier than you thought!!!!!!

Thanks for the replies. When I stripped the paint back it looked like the trunk / boot gutter was black...well that'll save a job then!

On the 3 I currently have, the sills are all body colour and then stonechipped on top.

Nice day today. Decided I couldn't wait for the pros to do my headlining so I went for it myself. I had copied the old one and been careful to leave lots of extra.

I bought 60 mini bulldog clips and pinned the headlining in place and it looked good. I then used impact adhesive to glue the front edge in place and then the rear window edge. The sides I held in place with the side trim just in case. Tomorrow I'm going to cut the sunroof holes and do a final trim and stick - so far so good and not that difficult. The material is super - easy to work with, nice quality and a very similar pattern to the original - no more bits raining down!

Update tomorrow...

Fitting the sunroof headlining panel was a brain teaser but I eventually worked it out.

The sequence is:

1. Take sunroof out.
2. Insert sunroof lining panel from above.
3. Rivet guide bracket to lining panel.
4. Insert lining panel into side guide slots.
5. Slide lining panel back.
6. Refit sunroof and move back a few inches.
7. Pull lining panel forward and clip to sunroof (involves some pushing and pulling to align).

Screens are being fitted on Saturday...

One or two minor things left to do now but hopefully by this time next week it will be officially OTR again. It's been a lot of work, a lot of time and a lot of money but I'm pleased with the result. I wanted to put it back to as it left the factory spec and this is it - very 1970s! I feel fairly familiar with these cars now and have to say they are well made and back in 1982, when mine was made, were well ahead of the competition technology wise.

As a typical project car it has cost me at least £15k, probably much more but I'm trying not to think about that - I did it for me not to make money on. Having said that I've just unexpectedly bought an M6 so am going to be selling this fairly soon! C'est la vie!
