1985 635CSI Diamantschwarz Metallic - Euro Spec

I just picked up the euro that Dean Cains had before me. He certainly put a lot of time into it and it shows. The exterior is in very good condition with only a couple minor imperfections. The interior is also in very good condition. The dash is crack free as far as I can tell and the other upholstery is in great shape. The radio is an aftermarket Kenwood setup, but he did match it to the BMW orange color along with the voltmeter that is integrated into the center stack. Thankfully, Mrs. Cains stored it for me as I found the time to come and pick it up. It was great to meet her and I'm sure that I will enjoy the car as I drive it back to Texas from Florida.

Now to get temporary plates...the idle is a bit low (500-650) so that needs some work before we leave. I was thinking about cleaning up the idle control valve and AFM and seeing if that helps.

Will do; he had posted on most of the threads I go to for technical support or other things. I've made it 3 hours down the road with no issues so far other than the poor idle. It has no issues at speed though and I managed. 1.5 L/100 km or about 25 mg on the highway. That's about what I expected to get, but I don't really know the usual mileage on the euros. My Schwarz on gets worse I'm sure.

I plan on updating this thread as I go along with the car. It really does run excellently.

Stopping in Pensacola to stay at a Friend’s family home. There’s a lot more driving to do tomorrow so it’ll be an early morning...💤💤💤

Yes, Ronal ACT. It's a staggered setup obviously; 7.5x16 and 9.5x16. I've put a set of Cooper tires 225/50/16 front, 245/50/16 rear.

After a long haul and some dry shifting I made it back yesterday night. Now to fix up my cars and move them to Richardson from Fort Worth...

The 944 needs the starter replaced, the Schwarz '85 needs re-assembly, and the Diamantshwarz needs and new master and slave cylinder

Looks great. Glad to see it come to the metroplex! Moving to Richardson? I live in Allen. Let me know if you need any help on the car.

Yes, I'm in Richardson now which is just down the road. It'll be my weekend driver as I don't have a garage or carport to park at downtown. The A/C system does need work so I just need to find a time for that. My other 6 has no A/C currently so that's more of a concern. The jet black one has not been updated either while the diamantscharz has r134a.

I just took it in to Richardson Discount Tire & Auto for the A/C and they said it was a little out of the realm that they operate in. It appears that the compressor is not receiving adequate power. Do you have a shop around town that you take things to or have some time to take a look?

Best,

David

Update: A/C blows cold now and an overheating issue has been fixed. It turns out that the top of my coolant reservoir was cracked and caused the car to run a bit hot. The A/C was fixed by replacing the evaporator temperature sensor below the dash.

What I need a solution to is the radio. The aftermarket unit is too long and hits up against the evaporator unit and does not clear the sensor which is quite problematic. Any ideas? It's a Kenwood body and head unit and causes the center stack to be offset from the dash due to its length.
Thanks in advance.

I just sent an email to ya. Glad you got the ac figured out. What an odd issue with the temp sensor in the evaporator. I’m digging into my ac system this week finally as I’ve been working on my ac in my 83 e28 and finally buttoned that up last night. You’ve got a couple of great looking e24s!

Thanks! The Diamantschwarz has the A/C working, but the Schwarz 6 still needs the R12 system gone through. Always a work in progress, but I have plenty of room to work on it with the other one in storage.

It's out of storage now and the Schwarz is in the shop for the R12 recharge. More to come...I still need to find a solution for the radio...

Everything is going well on it. It was nice outside this past weekend so I had my girlfriend shoot some photos of it - I'm going to upload the high resolution versions to google drive:
