The anomalies of owning a series one .

Having an '86 will allow you to punch in both VINs into http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?lang=en which will open a wide new world to your eyes.....
If I can offer one piece of advice it would be to check and double check everything before you order parts .

Yeah I'll watch that. Even realoem won't give me the option of the M90 engine which mine has, and a load of other anomalies which are obviously E12 throwbacks!

Nice find, hope you can save it. If your happy about the 4 piston calipers in the front you'll be glad to hear you have two piston vented rotors in the back. These cars have all kind of extras no other BMWs seem to have. Unfortunately one of them is the rust. Hows the front inner fender area? The m90 is a challenge but your at the right place. Good luck

Got my wheel arches through today. Can't believe they're not even the same form! My paint guy says he can fiddle with it, but it's obviously too much to ask to have a left and right the same shape! :x

Also, am I being daft... do the doors need to come off to remove the wings???

On the plus side, half my alloys have arrived from Germany. Some nice period Exim 15's. They'll be off to the wheel dude when the others arrive...

No , you'll have no bother taking the wings off without disturbing the doors.
Be VERY careful when you unscrew and dislodge the leading edge of the gutter trim that is affixed to the top of the wing , it becomes very brittle with age .
The only advice I can offer is once you are certain that the wing and the trim are seperated slowly slide the wing forward and pull the front end outward .
Good luck .

Rob (wattsmonkey ) had the same problems with his recently purchased rear arch sections .

Yes that's exactly the problem I have, although I ordered mine from Furst Autoteile in Germany as they're half the price of W&N. One side is ok, but they look nothing like the other. Pretty piss poor actually...

So, I managed to get the left wing off today without breaking the black trim, but what a t**t of a job! I achieved very little today as it fought me at every turn, but at least I can see what I have now in terms of good metal (one side at least).

One good thing happened today though... BMW called and told me that both my battery tray and opposite side had arrived. These are both supposed to be obsolete parts, so quite nice to still have them available!

Well done, I snapped the end off the plastic trim when I did it...and that part is obsolete!

Might be too late Dave but it would allow more manoeverability of the wing if you remove the front bumper assembly .

Yes I need to do that as well, but it's rusted through on the anchor points so it still came off.

Apparently it's a custom mix of paint based on Ford's Rado Grey...

These arrived today. Yet another piece of the puzzle! At £15 each I didn't see the point in patching the massive holes in the old ones!
