Why not fill the rear side markers while you are already at it??

Good question!

I actually thought long and hard about it and finally concluded that I'd opt for the greater visibility the side lights provided.

Lookin' good Phillip \:D/

Been a LONG time coming :(

Ya know, while it's a bit late now, there are more elegant ways to incorporate the rear/side marker lights, I've seen very nice examples actually fit into the bumper rubber, under the bumper, etc. :-k

Anyhoo, congrats on nearing completion and getting her back on the road =D>

Things are getting pretty exciting!
Many of us on this forum are anxiously waiting for the finished product.
As for the fires, man that's crazy! We just barely finished with the Napa fires. Now this...

Thanks guys!

Yes, completion IS in sight, though still a ways off. The fires here have been effing awful and scary as hell! Winds were akin to those up North. So strong that things were aflame before folks could react. Even worse, it appears arsonists were behind most of them. [-X [-X

So, here are some shots from today. I went up to watch Kapo put the 181 on. (That's the Diamond Swartz number).

Alrighty then!!

After 9 months of a proposed 45 days...Grace is HOME!!! Yaaaaaay!!! I had planned to utilize Triple A to flatbed her since she presently isn't registered, buuuut while I used Triple A for exactly this twice before. The first time was when I bought Grace and they cheerfully hauled her from Simi Valley to my domicile. Then again in August of last year when I had her hauled to Kapo's home. THIS time when I rang them and asked for a flatbed to haul the car, I was asked "what seems to be the matter with the car?" My reply of "nothing, it isn't registered presently" the reply was to get a 1 day use permit. That AAA is a roadside assistance company, they are not in the car hauling business. Needless to say, I was vexed by this response. I will not go into the whole sturm und drang but I was NOT going to get a Triple A truck to haul Grace home.

With my one day use permit in hand (the next morning) I fired Grace up and drove the 24 miles home. And here she is!! Now to re-assemble the interior. (I took out the center console and it is defying my faulty memory of HOW everything fits into that space) Oh and I can't fine my gear lever cover...~le sigh~

Beautiful job. I can however, understand the position of AAA. Whilst they are hauling your perfectly driveable car, they might not be able to assist someone in real need.

Okay!

Grace is smogged, and back on the road!!!! Much remains to be taken care of. Getting the parts for the glove box, new tires and alignment, front valance, A/C, Speedo/Odo, and audio system.

Okay then.

Seems my starter has begun to plot against me. either brushes are sticking or the solenoid is going. On Tuesday I got 4 Hankook 225/50R16 Ventus V2's mounted/balanced and then the front end aligned. And despite having Grace on a trickle charge the night before, twice when I tried to start her up, there was NO response.

(Understand, all other lights and buzzers work just no starter or even solenoid click) Even with a jump, nada. At Liberty Tire, one of the techs jumped across and spun the starter up. At Bagge & Son (they did the alignment) one of the techs retrieved a 2' long piece of round stock which probably weighed about 3 lbs and while I had the key in the start position (with nothing happening) he firmly tapped the side of the starter housing and suddenly my starter was spinning. Oh and NOT slowly but with VIGOR! So yeah, a re-manufactured Bosch SR442X is making its way to me.

Oh and 4 CV boot kits because that needs doing.

PS And I have to figure out the ABS issue and swap out the leaking gas tank...no rest for the wicked

Right!

I needed a new starter and new CV boots. Autohausz got the order and while the CV boots can be gotten for less, the shipping eats up the difference. Anyway, I'm having a shop swap out the old starter and put in the new one. I am just too damn old to fight that fight AGAIN. Twitchy backs do NOT enjoy being leaned over for hours at a time while making eighth inch turns of a bolt.

I'll jack up the rear and get the CV boots on probably on Thursday.

Ain't THAT the truth, Ken?

So, I dropped Grace off to get the starter replaced and when I got the text that she was done? The mechanic says, "Didn't have to replace the starter, it was corroded wires. So, instead of $150 + the cost of the starter? It was $50.00! IKR? And no, I don't know which wires. When I got there, he was at lunch, so tomorrow I'm going to go by to find out. Now to ship the starter BACK to Autohausz.

Hope to get the CV boots on over the weekend.

So, I eventually got the starter issues dealt with, new starter WAS required. THEN I pulled the floor mat up to wash it, -as you will occasionally- and lo and behold, the carpeting beneath it was quite wet. Soaked in fact. It seems the heater core has decided to release its fluids (albeit slowly) into the passenger compartment.
Well, like sooooo many things on my Teutonic beauty, the heater core is not removable unless and until you remove everything from the front seats to the firewall, including the windshield. Well, technically you don't HAVE to remove the windshield but hey, at THIS point, why NOT?
Let's pause here to breathe in the irony of one step forward (that starter issue) and 16 steps back and to the left and down into a smelly clay lined PIT! Bitter? I'm not bitter. A trifle alkaline perhaps... Anyway, I chose the coward's way out and bypassed the MoFo. Who says I'm not inventive? HA!
Now to figure out the front end rattle, get the speedo working, repair the A/C, oh and swap out the leaky gas tank...Oooh and get a replacement glovebox latch part #51161962654, so I can actually put the glove box back in.

I've included a shot of the clear tubing I used to do the bypass.

Okay then!

Mr. Doug Park has partially charged my a/c and folks it works! With 2 12oz cans it brings the air blasting from the vents down to 55 degrees Fahrenheit, that's 12 degrees celsius for our fellows across various seas. Elsewhere in the engine electrical section (because I wasn't sure where ELSE it might fit) I asked for info on volume needed to fill my refrigerant reservoir. Still have the rattling and I think it might be a less than correct strut install. ~le sigh~ Oh goody, doing a job twice!
I'm quite amazed that A) the compressor WORKS and holds a vacuum! Oh and it's using that {other} refrigerant.
