Rob,

Great work so far but how does the graphic look without the two vertical lines inside the box... so with the car, stars etc in the box but not the two additional vertical lines? Those two lines just look out of place to me.

I see Mark's point.

I feel the silhouette looks better when it looks sleek, perhaps rather than following the exact lines of the actual car. To me it looks squashed in that blue box.

Perhaps more like this.

And here's Josh's suggestion with the vertical lines removed.

I can fix that dark blue line across the background if need be.

Re this being an E24 specific register, I know it was a conscious decision to include E24 in the title of the NSW Register. I don't think the scope of the Aus register has yet been defined.

Good work Ellis.

The slightly smaller, sleeker silhouette certainly does it for me and the whole thing looks cleaner without the 2 vertical black lines - although looking at the SA club's logo (see attached) I think they are a BMW prerequisite.

More food for thought - are the stars necessary? The logo says Australia so we know it's Oz. So if the stars were removed the silhouette could be positioned more centrally simplifying the whole thing.

Also, I would hope that the Oz 6 series register is E24 specific, otherwise why have the stylised E24 silhouette in the logo?

Cheers...

I love the second one. Looks great with the slight squash. It does look better without the lines so if they are not required then I say ditch them. Note that model car makers always need to shorten and squash a car model so it meets the expected view we have in our minds, mostly as no one looks at real cars from the top down but that's how most views of model cars are taken. So squash it I say.

Can we get this made into an enamel bage for the front grill, a sticker for a window and mayhaps a cloth badge for our shirts/jumbers/caps/race suits? Would be great.

Good positive hard work all. It's this proactive approach that sees a register florish.

I have sent the "squashed version into the powers that be to be approved.
The vertical lines need to be there unfortunately.
As soon as its approved i will be getting the enamelled badges underway and some stickers as well.
No reason we cant do a tee-shirt also.

Great work Rob!

We look forward to the "powers that be" providing swift and unconditional approval. [-o<

I certainly look forward to adding the new enamelled badge & sticker to my car - replacing the old original register ones!

I've made some small inroads here in Adelaide to getting a local SA chapter started with all of the owners I've contacted so far agreeing it's a great idea. We just need to continue to track down as many local owners as possible and then get ourselves organised.

Cheers...

Great work Bob. You should work for ASIO! 8)

Do you want me to supply you with details of some of the cars we have over here in SA so they can be added?

Or are we going to do a state-by-state thing for the time being?

Cheers...

G,day Mark, i think it would be better to keep a state by state register untill the national body kicks off. Even when this happens i believe it would work better with state chapters, anyway we,ll see how it pans out In the meantime i can keep a seperate register for SA if you don.t want to take it on Mark. Cheers Bob.

Just read this thread Bob, the NSW / ACT register sounds like a great idea.

I am not too sure about the idea of seeking BMWs approval for a logo, I guess partly because BMW Australia does nothing to foster the enthusiasts, their parts pricing policy does not endear people to them.

Having a register as a means of being able to keep enthusiasts involved in these beautiful cars is an excellent idea. My 2 cents on the logo is to keep it simple, the outline profile with gills and simple 6 series script would suffice.

I will send some info to you.

Cheers,

Hi again everyone.
Well i have just got back from Europe and discovered that Munich have now formally approved our register design and the register itself.
I know that many of you either don't want to be part of BMW clubs or suggest that we shouldn't be supporting BMW because of the parts pricing policy however i have the following comments..
Pricing of EVERYTHING in Australia is a rip off.. I am involved with other sports and the same applies there .. in fact worse. Australia has always been seen as a high margin country and this is now only coming to light with the advent of on-line shopping..I only purchase parts locally if i really have to otherwise its straight to Pelican Parts or similar..My local BMW dealer whom i know well even suggests this and we laugh about it together. (I see by the way that they intend to drop the GST threshold to $500 rather than the existing $1000 !!!!)
Secondly .. At least the parts are still available somewhere..Try and get bits for an early eighties holden or Ford and see how you go!!
Thirdly. I think some form of affiliation with a BMW club is important as it allows like minded people to get together and discuss issues with these types of cars.. I use for an example an upcoming "spanner day" we are going to have in Brisbane where a garage that specialises in BMW's are giving us the use for a day of all its facilities including hoist where all sorts of things can be replaced and repaired. All you do is bring your new parts along.. This is being organised by the BMW club Qld and it is a great way of getting to know other 6 series owners and share the knowledge that we have..
Now that i have finished my rant i will get on with starting to reduce the grill badges, tee-shirts etc.
I will also start to consider the best way of collating the data for a register.. Probably an Excel file at the start will suffice with a mailing list.
Before i do any of this however i am going to sit down and look at all of the videos that I took at the Goodwood festival of speed and relive an absolutely awesome event..

Post by 635 tragic »

G,day Flash 635,
if you are still looking for a grill saw one on ebay item no 270838966655 i think it could be Julian up at Hearvy Bay
Cheers Bob.

Thanks Bob! That's everything I need, the grille and the indicator.
I only need one side, but hey...

Julian doesn't run the panel shop anymore, he sold it and is working in a mine somewhere. I don't know if he still lives in Hervey Bay or not.

I'll make a bid.

He's also selling a gold plated badge, that has to be Julian.

Hi Guys,
For your information I have been running an 02 register here in Victoria which has registrants from all over Australia, mainly Vic but not limited to this State. I should add here that I also own a pretty good example of a '6'.
The 02 register rule are very simple, and I think this has allowed this register to operate with no major hassles. The rule is:- If you own a BMW02 series vehicle you can become a registrant. I make all new registrant aware of the BMW Clubs, and I have defended, somtimes pretty heatedly, with Club members that a register is just a list of owners and interested drivers and BMW Club membership is not issue.
I maintain, the register is a reference point, for anybody who has a query or question pertaining to that model and I stick to this fairly rigidly. Having bought a new 2002 back in 1970 and since restored 6-7 of them and still own a lovely classic 'Roundie' and a Tii and also being an engineer I have a good knowledge what makes an '02' tick.
We do have a get together every now and then, and these occasions are always thoriughly enjoyed by all, but every thing is very informal and works well with no official intrusions.
Just to finish, we do have a logo which does not come up to guidelines but we don't poke it in 'their' face and we peacefully co-exist.
A few thoughts on the subject. Also, just keep it simple and it does not become a chore for anyone.
