January 2018 Catch up?

Hey guys,

Many months/years and no drives. Should we catch up in early 2018 for a brunch?

Let me know your thoughts.

I'm near the end of my massive engine build. Back together December but then need to await bench dyno. Awaiting one seal caught in customs. Pip Barker ordered under USD$1000 but when the parts landed the exchange rate had dropped and he was over the Customs threshold. So the joys of 10% GST and up to 30% tax. My one last seal is in that package.

Will be great to take a late Jan early Feb drive.

Hope you are all well.

Josh

Hi Josh,

I'm keen. The Gosford Museum idea worth revisiting?

That would do nicely. I'm so close with my car. Feb drive would be do-able with a possible late Jan.

I'm just awaiting one seal caught in a Pelican Parts purchase held in customs. I'll put the kids seat in for my 4 year old and then it's time for a year of lovely drives.

I might also head to Bathurst and have a beer and steak with Trev. He has got to know some good roads around there.

hey Josh.

its probably a safer bet to schedule a drive when your car is ready, as you dont want to put the mozz on yourself LOL.

When the car is ready ill personally come down to Syd from Melbourne to go on this long awaited 6 series tour.

Hi Josh

Bathurst would be nice or maybe Mittagong and some of the surrounding roads. Has your beast got a/c?

How much do they clip you to get a small part through customs?

Mr E the beast does not have a/c. This is on the list.

Any parts with a combined value inclusive of postage over $1k are hit with GST and an import duty of 20% to 30%.

Hi - a drive early in 2018 would be great. Haven't been on a decent drive in ages.

Hi everyone,

Well, if you're able to meet me halfway, how about next Saturday, 20 January - meet in Mittagong NSW for breakfast and then head down through the Southern Highlands & Kangaroo Valley towards Nowra.

From there head back up the coast northwards via Jamberoo Mountain Road, up through the mountains towards Robertson and then towards whichever is your closest freeway home.

The total route is around 170kms. I'm open to suggestions on variations to the route, if there's anywhere in particular around that way you'd like to take a look at, or even whether we should do it clockwise or anti-clockwise.

Here's a Google map as an idea: Google Map Route - Southern Highlands

If there's interest I'll suss somewhere in Mittagong for a breakfast meet point. Let me know!?

I'll chat to Rosie and should be in, minus the car. The engine should be ready late Jan as the engine builder in Sydney now has all the parts. Pip Barker is also bringing up my Group C race engine for the E3 Jan 30 and that should drop straight in post a bench top dyno tune post the 633's engine being dyno'd on the same bench dyno.

I bought Rosie a new BMW so we can take that. Isaac is growing up, quick. 4 going on 10.

Sounds good everyone.

Toby - looking forward to meeting you, and it's always good to get a chance to check out another Sixer too.

Josh - bring whichever car you like buddy, it'll be excitement & adventure as alway; Rosie, a delight & a pleasure as always; and Isaac, sounds like he's a chip off the old Shipper block.

I've picked a breakfast meet point in the centre of Mittagong, a cafe called The Shaggy Cow. Odd name, but everything about the place appears excellent. Location is 112 Main Street, Mittagong - the website says there's a public carpark behind the cafe, though in the past we've been able to get on-street parking just a bit further down along Main St/Bowral Rd, near the Playhouse.
http://www.theshaggycow.com.au/

I've changed the route slightly from what I originally proposed to avoid going all the way south to Nowra.

The plan is to meet at Mittagong at 8:30-9am and have breakfast with a view to leaving at around 10am, head to Kangaroo Valley, on through to Berry, lunch if we're ready at Gerringong or Kiama, then up via Jamberoo Mountain Road to Robertson. From there we can each take whichever way home is best.

Here is the route: Southern Highlands 20 Jan

I really like the Southern Highlands area, but haven't done it for a long time, so we'll just take it easy and find our way down and back. If there's anything I've forgotten, I'm all ears.

Let's keep in touch during the week to have an idea of numbers, people attending etc.

Cool. I'm looking forward to it.

-Ellis.

Cannot promise Rosie and/or Isaac. Bought Rosie an X5 diesel and she is concerned I'll race it, hehehehe. May need to be the Renault. My 6'er and the racer are 3 weeks from engine dyno. Then a few weeks to get the engines back in. What a wait. Years!!

Still available Ellis if you are a go.

If just you, Denis and myself we are caught with just 2 6'ers. Should we delay to later in Feb when my 6'er is back on the road?

Let me know.

Guys,

I've now got to work Saturday this week. I've got a client going on holidays Sunday and need to get the work done. I need to meet him on the central coast.

Either enjoy the drive with me grumbling at not being there or feel free to delay to late Feb. My engine builder has promised 1st week of Feb.

I sms'd Ellis re not enough 6'ers in the drive earlier today and whether or not we delay. I'm now caught as well. Let me know your thoughts.

Josh

I’m good to delay. I can post on Aussie Sharks on facebook to round up some numbers for next month if you’re ok with that...

No problem, we'll give it a miss this weekend. It's forecast to be around 35 degrees on Saturday, so perhaps better off avoiding the heat rather than out dicing in it. Maybe try late Feb instead. Sure Denis, if there are facebook 6ers they're welcome. Do they organise drives or anything of their own?

We haven't yet but there is demand for it.

Agree that the heat would be an issue - mine doesn't like anything over 30 degrees!

Ellis,

I should now be good for a late March early April drive.

My 633 CSi engine is still taking time. The engine builder will see me pick it up and go elsewhere shortly if he does not pull his finger out. Pip Barker has finished my racing M30B37 so I'll pick that up shortly to go into the E3 racer.

My Renault RS265 went over a truck rear light cluster on the M1 at 110km/h and bent the car. Written off. So I've just bought the exact car in the link (colour, options etc) and it lands March 16 for a March 23 pickup.

I can annoy Tev to get him along. So let's look at March 31, April 1 or the weekends of April 7 or 14. I cannot do anything post this until May.

Here's the car; http://www.caradvice.com.au/587360/2018 ... dgtz5mw5el

Hi Josh,

Nice - a 21st century six cylinder hot hatch. Fits a child's seat too huh? And I'll bet it has air-con.

March 31 or April 1 suits me best. What do others say? Same plan as above?

Re: January 2018 Catch up?

by Shipper 01
I'll put aside that weekend now.

Car has aircon. Thank God. Isaac can come along and we may get a guest appearance from Rosie.

Happy for Saturday or Sunday. My parents are in Bowral so a Southern Highlands drive is brilliant for me. I'll spam Trev on Facebook and see if he is in.

Would be good to see Paul, Ben and team Serco if they are around and whoever else is free for a drive.

I love the straight 6 engine and that sound. I still have a spare good M30B32 if anyone ever needs one for free. Was going to go into Gertie before I got the S38B38.

The M140i is fast. I'll get the LSD later this year. The B58 is very tuneable and a tuning box called the JD4 costing around $700 takes the engine to 420hp, so equivalent to an M3/M4. The cars do 4.0 secs to 100 with this box. The engines are also very very robust with people tuning to 600hp without needing to change any internals or gearbox. I believe the engine and gearbox max is around 650hp to 700hp before internals need love. Even the clutch handles 650hp. A bit like the Supra or GTR straight sixes. Built very robust.

So for $59.99k and a $700 plug and play you have a $129k M3/M4 level of acceleration. Great bang for buck and the M140i is the last rear wheel drive 1 or 2 series with the 2019/2020 model being front wheel drive.

I'll keep mine stock. I'm short a car at the moment and borrow Rosies once or twice a week for meetings. That's a pain. I'll keep it off of the track too.

Hammering the engine builder for the 633 at the moment. Will pull it from him if not finished by the end of March. Simply do not want to wait any longer. The car went to Melbourne is 2014 for the engine swap. 4 fricken years of waiting and pain and saving the car from Melbourne and more pain and insurance and engine second re-build. Never again. Hope Gertie is worth it!
