LOCUTUS Redux

Post by baders »

Just a brief note to say that I have purchased Vincenzos (2I6es) '86 635csi LOCUTUS. Vinney has had some hard times lately with his declining health but took the time to pick me up from Darwin airport, find good accommodation for me, set up the car on the hoist at his mechanics, drive me around Darwin showing me the sights, then drop me back at the airport next day. A big thank you also to John at NT Automotive for the use of his hoist and the friendly help.

It's been a long road for me back to E24 ownership. Government red tape and obstinacy prevented me from picking up a nice M635 from one of our UK BC members. Thus, I have taken another route to avoid importation red tape bullshit. I previously owned an immaculate Diamond Black '79 635csi that had the engine built by Ray Gulson. Loved that car till the ex wife trashed it :(

Vinneys car will provide an ideal basis for a nice build up. It has little rust, with just some bubbling on the sun roof, around door handle, and LR guard. The frame and sub-frames are solid. The suspension has been worked and tight. It has the close ratio gearbox and cruising 3.07 differential (my preference). The interior will clean up nicely and missing parts such as centre console (from its time on consignment) will be replaced.

The car is good looking as is. It drew nice comments from both an insurance assessor at the mechanics and the girl at the car transport company. Both said how nice it looked and were full of questions :)

Anyways, thanks Vincent for the hospitality mate ! I know you have trouble reading this forum now but we do wish you the best in your fight. No thread should be without pics;

I've always wondered what the heck 'LOCUTUS' means.
Maybe you can help me?

Glad you got sorted with a car at last, Paul, after all the hassle with the licensing authorities.
They are ALWAYS rustier than you thought!!!!!!

Looks like a nice motor Paul love the colour and a rare manual to boot, probably won't feel to far off a m635 without the auto. Enjoy.

I love this car , the colour combo ,wheels and stance are just "right " .
Vinney told me it was on it's way back west and I was very sad to hear he had sold it but hope you have as much enjoyment with it as he obviously did .
Look after it .......

Will do Don. I am beginning the search for needed parts. Whew, it ain't as easy as when I previously owned a sixer in the '90s !! They are simply non existent in the wrecking yards here anymore. Back then, I could have had my choice of wrecked cars. Even this though indicates I have made the right choice and is indeed part of the fun of these classic cars. The hunt for parts and the restoration of a timeless car will never get old.

I may have a lead on a very special part however. It begins with S and ends with 6. Anyone ?? :)

I've passed on all your good wishes. Apparently Vincent is having computer problems and can't get on to the forum :(

[rant mode]Well, its been two weeks and the car is STILL in Darwin. The car transport company was supposed to transport it the day after I dropped it off and assured me it would be delivered Perth on the 17th. They have come up with all sorts of excuses............road closure (bullshit, I looked it up), weather (liars, I work in the Pilbara and it has been unusually fine for this time of year), then the real admission. They will move it "when they get to it". This is a national car transport company. One would think they would have the resources in place seeing as I have already paid the full amount. I'm at the stage where I will be telling them to shove it, refund me, fly to Darwin (again), and doing the 5 day drive to Perth. Grrrrrrrrrrr.

Sometimes I despair for real customer service in this country. [rant over]

Very sorry for your plight!! :(
Maybe next time something like that happens,
you should pay a deposit & the balance upon delivery?

If only Greg. They accept nothing but payment up front. The whole industry works that way.
