Best way to remove oil stain on engine parts

Post by sansouci »

What is your experience when doing an overhaul to remove the brown oil stain from engine parts prior to reassembly? What materials and techniques work best? Now maybe it doesn't matter, but if you are a bit OCD...well you get the picture....

Soda blasting. You can use a cheap, handheld one with the hopper on top for small parts. For larger parts, use the big one. Both can be had from Harbor Freight cheaply.

Alternately, you can use mineral spirits and elbow grease, or really go to town with wet/dry sandpaper and kerosene.
