Wheel alignment tool.

Post by olympia57 »

Now maybe I'm playing catch up here and you all already have one of these but when fitting a road wheel I always seem to end up with back ache ,crushed fingers ,chipped caliper and wheel paint .
All of these issues were eliminated with the purchase of this little thing.....

Every boot / trunk should have one .

You can also use the bar for the plug spanner (wrench).I put up some pics many moons ago showing this.
They are ALWAYS rustier than you thought!!!!!!

Next time I have to pull all the wheels off to service something, I'm going to install wheel studs and nuts. There is nothing I hate more than lug bolts and I just never saw the German logic involved in the decision to use them over studs.

I think it was a matter of aesthetics. The plain flat (or dimpled) bolt head looks better* than a nut with a threaded rod sticking through it.

*looks better to some, not everyone.

I use the ole square up and lift with your feet method, using one hand to push against the wheel, and the other to insert the lug bolt. It gets faster over time, never gets easier though.

Mercedes used to put very similar tools in their toolkits. A great help

Mine had studs and nuts when I got it. Some of the nuts/studs were stripping, and some of the studs were bent. That's not the first time I've had that experience with wheel studs. Maybe the kit on my M6 were an inexpensive version, but I switched back to security bolts. I've had no problems since. My tool kit has the wrench handle/alignment tool and it works great. Truth be told, I don't use it though. I just pop the wheel on with my meat hooks.

Got mine from Reverse Logic . . .

I actually purchased a jack pad from them for the missus' 5er, ya don't wanna just put a jack anywhere under an F10 [-X

And they sent me a lug bolt guide for free

Not as inexpensive as the one in the original linky, but I just "had" to buy one for the 6er #-o

Does it matter which one to use for the e24? I'm assuming the oldest model the e32 would suffice?

Why not use the tool in your trunk that does the same thing?

Number 11

the bigger end fits in to the wheel bolt hole then slide on your wheel.

or plastic ones are cheap! or free if you ask a e30 owner

I could, but for the equivalent of $8 I'll leave number 11 safely in the complete tool kit . :D
