QuickJack?

Post by sansouci »

This company has been inundating the airwaves with informercials on the QuickJack. Anyone have any experience with them?

It looks like a cool solution for basic wheel/brakes/oil type stuff. For my needs, it is too low though. I find that I need at least 26" between frame and ground. Less than that, and everything is just way harder to do. The other thing that is a bummer, is that you can't put the vehicle on jack stands off of them. I would be very nervous working under the car with just that lift holding it up. I would want to put jack stands at the corners, so I can slide in/out from all over.

For our E-24's, I have found that a jack with a cross beam can lift at the front "fangs" really well. Lifting from there, I can put the front end on jack stands very quickly and have enough room to get most anything done. If you are looking for tools to work on the car (not lift the whole thing), then take a look at the two links below.

Jack Cross Bar

High Lift Floor Jack

I would buy the two items above and try them, before buying a $1500 lift.

I have also purchased these below, but haven't had a chance to use them yet. I see them as having the best potential. Easy to get onto, easy to lift, allow for jack stand transfer, works for front and back. Lots of pluses.

Jose,
How does the HF crossbar attach to the jack?

It bolts on in place of the original lifting cup.

Just like Ken said. You removed the big bolt holding the round saddle on the jack, and the cross bar bolts on. It's wide enough to lift by the tow loop fangs up front. Even with my M6 sitting pretty low, I can still get under them and onto jack stands at the front lift points. If you were to have a high lift jack and normal ride height, I bet you could lift the nose high enough to remove the tranny and slide it out the front.

Well,
My old reliable floor jack has a 1-1/8" diameter hole that the round lifting saddle pin fits into. The hole does not go all the way through, just deep enough for the pin to sit in. Not sure what the solution is so I may look at other makes of cross bars.
