E39 BBS Style 42 on my 6

Post by biggles »

A friend has a set of the OEM BBS style 42s he took of his e39.

Does anyone know if they will fit on the 6 series? I have had wheel sizing and spacing explained to me on numerous occasions... but I am built for lifting heavy things rather than understanding such intricacies.

17inch all 8j et 20.

I know i will need a hubcentric spacer as the spigot of the 6 series is smaller diameter.

I have style 42s on my 6; you must use spigot rings because the E39 (for some perverse reason) has a wider centre bore than E28/E34/E24 and probably loads of others.

?20 a set for alloy ones, a search for E39 spigot rings on ebay should do the job.

Having said that, the p.o. of the wheels was presumably quite happy rattling around without the benefit of the rings, but I really wouldn't recommend it!

Do you have a pic of them fitted... tried tracing your posting to see if there is a pic and was unsuccessful. I am dying to know how they sit in the arches... I am funny that way

I know about the hubcentric thing and a tyre fitment place near me has teh required ones... I out of the country for 5 weeks so bought the wheels but will only see in 5 weeks what they look like on the car... driving me nuts.

I don't suppose you know if they were spaced or not?

doesn't look like there is any spacers on these! Style 42's look very nice on our 6ers, it's been my experience these wheels look better when you lower the suspension and add 15mm hubcentric spacer in rear to bring them out a bit with wheels specs being 17x8 ET20 and tire size 235/45/17.

Here's two images of my '85 635 with 17x8 ET20 Style 42's and 235/45/17 tires. I have the hub centric rings (72.56 inner and 74.1 outer diameter), but no spacers.

They look pretty nice for a modern wheel. If lowered spacers will fill the guards out better. I'd put them on first and if u are happy leave them otherwise get the tape measure out and get the appropriate spacers.

The nice thing is they are with a mate and it is a reluctant sale anyway... so we will fit them and I can always return to a happy seller if they don't fit the look.

I found some style 42 rims from a 5 series with 245/40/17 tires on front and 255/40/17 on rear. I know I will need the hub centric rings. The tire size seems to be a little bigger than recommended. Does anyone have any idea if there will be issues fitting these on a 1979 635 euro?

Thanks

ldc, I would think that you are going to foul the struts up front with 245's [-X

No problems out back, however, where you can install steamrollers without issues =D>

Presuming these wheels are 8" wide with ET20 offset, the correct tire size would be 235/45's [-o<

I suspect you will have a lot of rubbing issues on the front.
