Stolen wheels alert BBS style 5

Post by globalgrooves »

I havent been on for a while and i guess my account was deleted, anyway needless to say i am pretty pissed right now, last friday my wheels were robbed from my baby. Nice of them to leave some bricks for me to cruise around on !

They were stolen in west los angeles friday Dec 20th 2013 and they are mint condition BBS Style 5 RC090. The centers were powder coated dark grey, and the barrels were polished and clear powder coated, all the hardware was brand new, fitted with Nexxen tires. So if you see them let me know, they are not like your usual style 5's also one wheel has 2 bolts missing.

I hate thieves!! :x Sorry to hear about this. I notice the hood is open. Are you good there?
I also see the rust on the rotor, so, it hadn't been driven in a while, huh?
I also see the early Porsche. Was it molested too?
I use to have a '67 911S Targa, with the zip down rear window.
My favorite car, till I drove my Buster!
Good luck,,,,Greg

thanks Ralph, i am scanning ebay and craigslist daily. Luckily they didnt take anything else, i disconnected the battery so it would not go flat, so of course the alarm didnt go off. Thats why the hood was left open. They didnt touch the porsche.

The wheel were bright and shiny so thats what attracted the bastards. There has been a bunch of construction on my street and the other day there must have been 30 people working on one of the houses, and i am sure an opportunist saw and opportunity!

Wow, :x makes me smad (mad and sad at the same time).

Hope they did not do too much damage to the underside with their "tools"...

I also hope that they might be dumb enough to put them on their own car so that when the wheels are recognized, it is the thief itself in the car....

I am very pleased to report the latest development in "Wheelgate" I got them back !! Thanks to a big coupe forum member BLACKSHARK6 who spotted my post of stolen wheels alert. He forwarded a me the Craig's list ad with my wheels. So a quick trip to meet the scum bag with one of my mates who looks like he crushes kittens for fun. And hey presto my BBS splitties are back !! The good guy wins and time for a pint. Rock on 2014

Best,
that was the question the police asked, they could not do anything unless there was proof of serial numbers, a lesson learned there. I have stamped my initials on the inside of the faceplate for good measure.

Great news! I like your friend already.
Did the police say all you need are initials for ID?
I ask because if, by faceplate you mean the lug bolt covers, may I suggest
you remove the tires & with an electric scribe write in your whole name?
I mean, they already know where the car is, right? :-k

at the end of the day the police could not help, although they wanted to. The reason being they had to have definative proof that the wheels were yours. Like a record of the serial numbers, otherwise it would not sell to a jury. I just added my initials in the back of the faceplate with a stamping set, remember it has to be visible, no one will notice it unless you know its there. Dont hide it behind tires because then the tire has to be removed to prove it.

Okay. But, what exactly is the faceplate??
My thinking is, wouldn't it be worth it to remove the tires to show ownership?
And the thieves wouldn't likely remove the tires to sell just the wheels, so they wouldn't know what's there?
Don't get me wrong, I'm just trying to understand.
Again, what is the faceplate? :-?

the faceplate is the vertical surface that bolts to the hub, the problem with removing tires it costs money to do that in the first place, you have to take it to a tire shop to do it, its much easier to have your initials stamped on the backside of the faceplate. the police would want to verify the parts without the trouble of taking the wheels to a tire shop, removing the tires etc. no one would spot 2 tiny initials, and even if they did they would not know what they refer to, much easier for everyone concerned.

Got it! =D>
Thanx for taking the time. At least they can't sell the wheels w/o the faceplate.

verry happy i could help. i was just doing a regular daily craigslist on bmws i think was new years eve, I like to do a search for cars with the price range of 100-1000 then 1000-2000 just to see if there any cars out there for 3-400 bucks, and there usually are a couple e30s, e21, e10,,e12, e23s, e24s, anything old pretty much, sometimes a euro for 1k, .. and i saw bbs for very cheap and raised a red flag, remembered this thread and let the owner know, i never saw the pictures in the thread, but the ad sounded like the description on the forum.. i was prepared to do a more thorough search if that was not the stolen wheels, just suprised to find them when i wasnt even looking for wheels.
