I know that this is a nit-picky question, but . . .
Will the center caps from the first (older) Style 5 wheel shown below fit the second (later) Style 5 wheel shown below? I plan to use a 16" x 7" wheel of the later type, and I wondered which size(s) of the earlier wheel's center caps would fit it, if any.
Thanks,
Jeff

I don't believe so. The first is screw on type, the second is clamp/twist

These just popped up for a good price:

That would be the later wheel which is 16x8. The first type you showed was E28 M5, and should be 16"x7.5" et20

That first picture is not the e28 m5 wheel. I am not even sure if it is 16" as it looks to be the e34 type in 15". There have been so many different style 5 wheels and a few different center cap designs. The m5 used a twist on type but was different than some of the others. The m5 would not accept the clamp on outer wheel weight.
Still can not answer your question about center caps.

Thanks, tschultz and Alpina; I think I'd better wait until I actually buy some wheels and then see if I am even able to change the 'caps to the older style (if I still want to do so). Oh, and thanks to Alpina for the tip regarding the MyE28 listing.
Since 16" X 8" wheels were mentioned, will Style 5 wheels in that size fit my '84 without the use of 20 mm spacers to move them outward (since that is the difference between their offset and that of the "bottlecaps" currently on the car)?
Also, will they accept the 215/55-16 tires which I would like to use? I realize that the width of such tires will make a difference in clearance, but they would keep my overall diameter virtually hammer-on .
