ever wondered where tyres are made, and which factory made them?
It turns out that every tyre that is (US spec) DOT compliant has a mark indicating which factory made it. Tyres are a global business these days so tyres sold in other territories also tend to have DOT compliance markings.
I found this list;
http://www.tiresafetygroup.com/tire-dot ... d-country/
which makes for some interesting reading, not least because it sometimes indicates local tie-ups; e.g. for some years I used some Malaysian Sime tyres which appeared to be very well made. It turns out that Sime are partnered with Continental... There is of course no guarantee that Sime branded tyres are as well made as Contis, even if they come out of the same plant, but it is the kind of information that is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick when it comes to making rational choices regarding tyres these days.
(edit; though this may be a bad example; I'm not sure you can easily buy sime branded tyres any more, they may be too busy making Contis...)
cheers

Very interesting! Thanks for posting that.
Hmmmm. Maybe someone needs to revise the info on this listing..... USA moved to within Germany? Now I can drive to the 'Ring!
