CoupeKing Staggered Alloys

Post by phactory1 »

Definitely going to get a set of these, leaning towards the straight silver but also considering the polished lips. Going to get 16" x 8" at all four corners. I've never seen a polished set on a Shark
before. Any one on here got a set with some pics to share?

TIA, Phil

So no one has any photos or opinions about these wheels? Is this thing really on?

Yes Phil, this "thing" is on . . .

So you want to polish just the lips of these wheels, which are painted silver :-?

Where do you plan in transitioning from paint to polished surface :-k

I trust that you don't plan on polishing the entire wheel, with all those spokes, that's gonna be a supreme PITA #-o

And since these are Alpina copies, and just about every Alpina wheel I have seen was just silver painted, so finding an example of what you are trying to accomplish may be a bit more difficult than you imagine

BTW, your post subject indicates that the wheel set is staggered, but if they will be the same 8" width all around, that's not staggered [-X

Good luck and have fun polishing 8)

CoupeKing does a great job with these wheels. I had a set on my ///M6 and loved the look. The polished lip may be just what an Alpina style wheel needs to "bling" it up a little. High quality replicas IMO

Bobbo,

Yes the title says staggered because that came from the CoupeKings website. I know what staggered means, but I think in the interest of rotating my tires I will get all 8's instead.

I do not plan on polishing anything. Coupeking sells their wheels either all painted silver or with a polished rim. I thought that was pretty clear.

M6 Smitten,

Thanks for the pics! I am definitely leaning towards getting the all silver wheels but Erik did say that he might have a set with the polished lips available. In my Old School Eye I prefer the non polished edges, but I would still love to see a set on an E24. Did you do 7's and 8's or 8's all around? What size tires did you use?

Thanks, Phil

Thanx for the clarification!

Went to their website, that's what they call them, and now I do see the one photo that shows the polished versus painted lip, which you also posted

Still curious how they address the transition from the polished surface to the painted surface :-?

Tire size is a good question

I didn't see the offset listed on the site, but to be safe, I'm sure that 225/50's would work [-o<

Might want to check out what the offset is first however, before you order, wouldn't be cool if you wound up needing spacers up front due to offset issues

They look great on M6smittens ///M6

The wheels are big enough to fit over ///M brakes; can't remember the offset but they're perfect for e24. IIRC the fronts are 7' wide and rears are 8"".

M6Smitten,

Yes, typically you would stagger them (especially on an E9), but Erik told me that I can also run all 4 as 8" width wheels on an E24 with absolutely no problems, then I can rotate the tires. He also said no spacers or hubcentric rings are needed. He doesn't list the offset but the website says:

One of our signature products. These 16×7 and 16×8 ALPINA Style wheels are perfect for E9, E12, E28, and E24′s. Unlike original ALPINA wheels, these are made using modern metallurgy and don’t bend if you look at them hard! Come with 4 caps as shown. Lifetime structural warranty. Also available with a polished lip.

Bobbo for tire sizes he says: "I’d run a 225/50 all around.", so yeah you hit the tire size right on the head! I think just the very last edge is the only one that is polished.

I was on the fence originally and then I saw a set in person and I have to say that they are absolutely beautiful! Plus they are readily available, and given the change in metallurgy, should prove far stronger than the originals. Another thing I like is the fact that they are 16", which is about as close as you are going to get to the original size of the TRX wheels.

Thanks, Phil

Personally I like the brighter silver wheels and black center. It looks more traditional Alpina to me.It is for sure my favorite wheel for our cars, just don't like the price. I don't think Alpina ever made a polished lip version of this wheel so that kind of detracts from the look for me.( not sure about that) They are both beautiful wheels though and of course the choice is all yours. I'm sure it will look great if thats what you like. Please post some pic when you do get them mounted up.

I've seen 8" wheels called staggered because the offset was different.

Hey Guys,
I too am leaning toward getting the CK's vs Alpina.
Can wait to get these Borbet 17's off the Six and have the Alpina Turbine look with black centers !
Has anyone got pics yet of the polished lip version on a Six?
Seems like whoever takes the jump into Polished Lips would take some good pics !!!
Anyone interested in my 17 x 8.5 Borbets?
