Lately, I'm partial to the staggered Coupe King Alpina reps with the polished lips.

Nope, never offered on the 6 series but, still a unique wheel and hard to find so I thought I would share.

Folger Cup 4. Never seen these on a 6 before, or any BMW for that matter. No longer in production. Limited run made for the E34 M5 I believe, but look better on a shark.

These are TSW Thruxton wheels. No longer available.
Front - 18X8 with 225/40 tire, 20 offset
Rear - 18X9.5 with 275/35 tire, 20 offset

No body modifications to fit. I recall it did rub lightly on the inside of the driver side. Tapped the metal liner with a rubber mallet and it no longer rubs.

I had actually already purchased these wheels when I found the BBS's, and this is what is on my car at the moment! 7"s in the front and 8"s in the back.

I'll admit to being biased, but E39 style 5 in 17 inch are tough to beat (currently running 245 75s). Love the look against my Polaris paint. Cleaning, not so much. Still love them.

I've got a staggered set or Ronal's on mine, but I think I'd rather have either a set of Style 5's or Alpina's.

Ok, I'll chime in. This wont go over well with the purists, but I like my Boyd Coddington wheels.

Got these around '95 for my '87. Put them on the '88 now.
TSW 7.5x 16 I think. Better with plastic hub rings. Never seen another set, prob a reason for that. I bought them when I was desperate for a set of wheels. They've grown on me over the years.

fronts 235/40-18 (645mm dia)
rears 255/35-18 (635mm dia)

-these are on 18x8J (ET13mm) front rims
and 18x9.5 (ET25mm) rears

These are E38 7er 'M-parallel' rims (genuine BMW)

On lock, these wheels rubbed the back of the front arches on a series 1 car but fitted fine on a series 2 car.

I thought they looked great but

a) any staggered fitment will wear the front shoulders and the centre of the rear tyres. I reckon you typically get less than half (maybe a third) the mileage out of a staggered set on an E24 because of this.

b) 18" rims with these tyres gripped well but made the car steer very badly indeed. Tramlining, excess noise, heavy steering etc.

Needless to say I'm not running those wheels any more; I now have a non-staggered set of 17" E39 style 32s on, with metal spigot rings. These wheels use a very commonly available tyre size in which there is lots of choice at reasonable cost. However, even these make the car steer worse than it should, so I shall fit 16" or 15" wheels again in due course.

cheers

I bought my car with a set of BBS RX copies fitted , 8 x 17, et 20, 225/45/17 tyres. Drove it 325 miles home and decided to downsize to 16's when the car was restored. The 17's caught on front wheel arch on lock and lacked the smoothness I was seeking in the ride. Oh , and they looked shit .......

A set of 8 x 16, et16 Remotecs were fitted with new 225 / 50 / 16 Khumos . These gave a lovely smooth but taught ride with no body contact.

I wanted to reduce the offset on the rear and fitted a set of 7 x16, et20 Style 5's with the same tyres as above . I'd say that these were the best of all with the same ride qualities as the Remotecs but with slightly better steering feel . They just feel perfect for my series one car .

I still have the Remotec's ,( and the original 14 " Mahle's ) and will fit new tyres to them and alternate them with the Style 5's

-e31 style 8
-These wheels came off a 850i.
-They are 16x7.5" with a 15 offset,
-Best tire to run without rolling is a 205/55/16
-They fit e28s and e24s as well.

I have a set of the e31 style 8 wheels from my 8 series, will these wheels bolt on to my 81 633csi with no need for spacers or hub centric rings.

I really like the look and would rather use the style 8's than search for aftermarket wheels.

Those Rial mesh look great! I have a set in 16x8 et11 that I would like to get refinished. The original clear coat is being very difficult to remove, however!

On my early Euro, I have 17x8 style 32 wheels. They are great looking wheels on a shark-- probably my favorite.
From E39, will need hub-centering rings. Tire size 235/45/17

Image

Here's another set on my turbo car:
Image

Here is BBS RS 211, 16x8 et13. Tire size 225/50/16. Slight running on full lock in front of early E12 based car.
Image

BBS RA/Mahle Wheels, Staggered 16x7 et11 and 16x8 et24. REQUIRE LONGER LUG BOLTS than stock.
205/55/16 Tires front. 225/50/16 rear.
Image

BBS RS740 (BMW Style 42)-- 17x8 et20
Will need hub-centering rings as these wheels came from E39. Tires 235/45/17.
Image

BMW E28 M5 Wheels -- 16x7.5 Et20 225/50/16

Different wheels for different moods/vibes. I really like 16" Alpina wheels as well but I don't know that I can pick a single favorite.

Those Rial's are the perfect match to that car, and so is the color. A blue 635 (really any of the metallic blues) just looks right, and I looked for one before i had to buy my Diamantschwarz car.

I really like the look of Style 32s, especially in 16" size, but the ET20 offset meant the M's arches were likely to remain under-filled!

The answer appeared to be this set of RH wheels. A bit too wide at 8.5", but this width, along with an offset of ET10 meant full arches! There is even a nice concave dish to them and 'nuff dish.

rh wheels.JPG (874.95 KiB) Viewed 23010 times
You might notice that the wheels are fitted to the project 635, not the M. That is because they do not fit over the Brembos. Swapping the brakes for the standard M four-pots revealed that they do not fit over those either. With the benefit of hindsight, I should have checked this before getting new tyres on the RH wheels, but a trip to Ron's with Brucey made the decision for me to take the chance (or, more accurately, make the assumption).

This has led me, like a number of my pointless obsessions, to arrive where I started and "know it for the first time". Loving my Hartges again, think I'll treat them to a colour other than Halfords wheel silver though: it's blatantly grey! Here's a dull pic with a drive-full of black E24s. You'll notice that Halfords Wheel Silver even turns the weather grey - most unusual for England, of course!

To answer the question posed by this thread though: M6Smitten's "Hartge, FTW" post. Best looking wheels for the six without a doubt.

Very nice and here's the same wheel in the rotateable 8" all-round width et19 (identical to OE TRX) offset 'winter' wheel option combination. Are you sure you've got 10" width on the rears there? My info was that the 10" version only fitted on E31 and would rub the shock absorber on the rear of E24 without spacers. Only the 8", 8.5" & 9.5" (rear only) were straight up bolt-on fitments on E24 without use of spacers/rings/longer bolts etc.
