Would advise no bigger than 17" if you want any sort of comfortable ride!
They are ALWAYS rustier than you thought!!!!!!

I'd very much agree with Ron on that one . I went from 17 to 16 inch wheels and the difference is noticeable and I'd guess that the roads around Galashiels are not dissimilar to South Kerry .
This just looks " right " to me .

IMHO 18's will make you look like a wagon train.

Okay Ken. You don't look like a wagon train! #-o
But, your spokes are a good size larger than Alpina's right?
I'm thinking that'll change the overall look? :-k
In fact, your car looks damn good like that! =D> WOW!
Greg
Ps; what wheels are those? Kinda spiffy. You got style! 8)

They are 8.5 x 18 and 9.5 x 18 Beyern 5s (no longer available). The Beyern "Rapp" style wheels are kinda similar, but lack the added depression on the spokes going toward the lug recesses.

I would have bought 17's, but my M6 came with 18's. I don't think my M6 has any Chuck wagon vibe going on. 8)

You guys are just slappin' me around, and I love it!
Another good lookin' 18"er!
Again I say, the Alpina spokes would change everything?
And, if he tries to maintain a good reading on the speedometer with a low profile tire it would ride way harsher. :-k Me thinks.
Thanx for changing my thinking!

An interesting point you bring up. My speedo actually reads about 3 mph faster than my GPS in the 60 - 80 range. That would mean rolling circumference of the 18's is actually smaller than the OEM wheels/tires.

With Kos on this, it's the closed lug wheels that look best on Highlines. The bottom pic is the arse end of my non-Highline with just too much 17" Alpina going on! 265 tyres, just too much without a great big plastic bumper.

In fact, I sold these wheels to buy Kos's 16" closed lugs, but always hankered after the open lug ones. Pic on top.

No, I can't work out how to put photos in my post using the attachment function! Durr.

This my 89 Highline on

Two (x2) Front Wheels - 8.5j x 17" ET13 Alpina Part No. 3611638 (Tyre -235/45/17)
Two (x2) Rear Wheels - 9.5j x 17" ET28 Alpina Part No. 3611637 (Tyre - 265/40/17)

I think it looks great and the tyres are certainly cheaper!

I think its quite clear that when it comes to alloy wheel selection, Ron stands head and shoulders above us all.

a 265/40 is a bit much full stop lol

i'm running 255/40 on my 9.5 x17's. the front runs 225/45 on the 8.5's. the 235/45 was a bit much
