tyre size

Post by arif »

Hi all,
I'm getting a set of 17" rims for the car, 7.5j front and 8.5j rear. What tyre size will I need?

Reading posts I can see the recommendation for the rears 8.5 is 235/45 but can't find anything for the front 7.5.

You didn't mention the ET (offset), but . . .

You should be alble to run 235/45's up front and 255/40's out back, on those wheels :-k

I have 8" front and 9" rear wheels, with those size tires =D>

Thanks Bobbo.
Is there any particular reason you suggest 255/40's at the back instead of 235/45's?

Thanks
Arif

Staggered wheel setup

Post by GRNSHRK »

arif, since your rear wheels are 1" wider than the fronts, that "typically" infers that you plan on running a staggered tire setup, meaning that you would run wider tires on the rear than you would on the front :-k

I have a friend with an ///M6 that has 17 x 8.5 wheels all around, and he runs 255/40's all around as well, so 255's will fit on 8.5" wide wheels

You "could" stretch the 235's onto 8.5" wheels, but personally I'm not a big fan of the "stretched" look (I'm old #-o ) nor would I put the same width tires on 2 different width wheels [-X

Some personal opinion applies here, but I've been at this for a long time, and these sizes are tried and true for our beloved 6ers

I completely agree with what your saying. I really don't get the stretched look but I guess different folks different strokes.

I will be going with your tyre size recommendations. The only other question (for now) is what pressures....32 psi?

Yeah, 32 psi is fine . . .

Post by GRNSHRK »

I typically run 34 psi up front to deal with the extra weight and 32 out back

But I just had my tires replaced and I noticed that the rears were a bit thin in the middle, even at 32 psi

Guess ya just need to keep an eye on them [-o<

I've been thinking of adding a TPM to keep a better eye on tire pressure.
