Hey guys, I just bought a set of e31 (850i) wheels with 245/50/16 tires mounted for my 1979 633csi....I have to clean'em up before I install them on my 6er, however, I think I may run into issues with especially the front tires maybe rubbing the shocks. I already have a set of e31 wheels with 225/50/16 tires mounted on an '85 635 that fit and run great on both the '85 and the '79....does anyone know what I'll need to do in order for the 245's to work on this '79 6er....will I need spacers or maybe something else? I'm in over my head with this fitment issue....any suggestions greatly appreciated.

The offset of those wheels would help, but . . .
...those tires are a bit on the tall side and may rub on the underside of the spring pearches in the front
You mention running 225/50-16's and the equivalent diameter 245mm wde tire would need to be a 45 aspect ratio, not 50
But the 245's may be too wide in general, so if they don't rub on the underside of the spring pearch but on the strut tube itself, you will need spacers

Re: need some help with installing e31 wheel/tire set
The E12 based cars have a little worse clearance than the E28 cars, mainly in the front.
As stated, the tire size is too tall, and an acceptable width really depends on the offset of the wheel. 225/50 would be the way to go if possible. Unfortunately things just don't work out when you have a tire too tall

Re: need some help with installing e31 wheel/tire set
Is it just me, or do the e24's (and other bmw's for that matter) always seem to be want for a little more tire to fill the arches? Even the style 5's sometimes, and it's not really satisfied with taller rims either, sometimes 18's or 19's with thin rubber still looks kinda ghetto. Most times I prefer 16's with taller rubber, but even 15's with 70 series tires still look too small for the body on these cars. IDK... Always sort of bugged me.
