Opinions please rc090... to change middle or not?
You know what they say about opinions right?
Anyway i would like yours, honest and straight to the point. I picked up a set of RC090 17" et20 8j yesterday from a nice young lad... they have 215x40x17 on 2 of them and 195x40x17 on the others. Tyres look new, shame he put thin ones on 2 of the rims but they wouldnt fit on his car otherwise.. and i cant do the stretched look.
Now i plan to keep the 215 and put that pair on the front.. will stick 235-255 on for the backs... sorted.
Condition of polished rims is really good, i can make nice with a quick polish. Gold bolts (even have gold dice on the valves) as he used to do shows in an e36 with them. Overall well pleased.. especially for £650! :) with 8 centre caps!
However they middles are grey, do you think i should go to the trouble of stripping and powder coating the centres.. then spraying the caps? Misses says they look fine... i am pretty sure they look nice.
What say you guys?
Yes... thats inventive use of wood to hold them sort of in place :)

I have an 8"/9" set in the same colour which is Nogaro silver. Check out the trim strips that run up both sides of the roof from the front. They should be the same colour.
I also have a set of gold bolts that I don't need if anyone is interested.

Re: Opinions please rc090... to change middle or not?
They look good. There is no shortage of E24s out there on silver RCs, so yours would have distinctive look without trying too hard to be different.
I say leave them as is, and spend the money on something else.

I would use them as is and decide later if you like them or not. The other consideration is what color would you go with? Stock Hyper Silver is everywhere as Soperman said. Seeing them on the car is much different from just lining them next to it also.

What Ron said. Also for 255's you really need a 9" rim.

Re: Opinions please rc090... to change middle or not?
thanks gentlemen, decision is made - run them for a bit and see.
Few errands to do this morning, then the plan is to:
1) sit in front of wood burning stove with some cloths / metal polish / glass(s) of red for the afternoon
2) breaks from polishing will consist of researching best tyre size to fit. Decided that i will fit 4x new tyres (either Vreidstein or Michelin PS) and keep all sizes the same.
Once decision on sizes is made, either blackcircles.com or asdatyres.co.uk shall get my credit card money.
Perfect afternoon? Making new things shiny and searching the forum learning stuff - nice!
** edit think its 225/45/17's for me.. thinking Michelin Pilot Sport 4 at £99.14 a corner fitted **

Re: Opinions please rc090... to change middle or not?
I've always put 235/45 on 8x17's; slightly higher sidewall for a little more comfort and closer to the OEM 415 TRX rolling radius IIRC.

Re: Opinions please rc090... to change middle or not?
Pondered this but was concerned i might rub on the front suspension? Also ran the numbers and it seemed that overall 225/45/17 would be the nearest to the TRX coming off i.e. 240 x 45 x 415sharkfan wrote:I've always put 235/45 on 8x17's; slightly higher sidewall for a little more comfort and closer to the OEM 415 TRX rolling radius IIRC.

Re: Opinions please rc090... to change middle or not?
You are right about 225/45's being nearest the TRX size, my apologies.
I have run 235/45 on 17x8's for years with no rubbing issues; you get a higher sidewall for a little more comfort and a wider tyre to protect against kerbing but we all have different criterea for tire size and choice.
Good luck.

Re: Opinions please rc090... to change middle or not?
Well sir, i have gone for the 235/45 Michelin PS4 - if they work for you then thats what i would prefer, slightly softer is a good thing. Just cautious on receiving of any unwanted rubbings :)sharkfan wrote:You are right about 225/45's being nearest the TRX size, my apologies.

Looking forward to Wednesday's fitting after spending 3 hours with the polish today!

I run Kumho Solus HS51 in 235/45 on my ET20 RC090 17x8 and have no rubbing problems.

Thanks Baders...
Hope the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 are good... have always got PS2 on my cars previously but they seem to be impossible to get for a reasonable amount of £ these days. Couldn't find for less than £130 each.

Re: Opinions please rc090... to change middle or not?
Dropped the rims off at tyre fitters.. promised the guy a tenner if he looked after them and didnt scratch
Then jacked the old girl up, got some of the old underseal off where damaged and cleaned and epoxy 121 mastic'd.. then went back to pick up the tyres at 1630.
All fitted with Michelin PS4, i love 'em! Unfortunately its going to rain for the next few days and was getting dark so put her back in garage without testing them. Next dry patch ill get her out and see what proper new rubber feels like.

Plus 10!!!
Just agreeing with everyone else, they look perfect
And not to change the subject, but does anyone know the color code for Nagaro Silver, or where I can find it
Thinking about doing the same thing to my Throwing Star centers and would not want to leave it up to the wheel shop to figure it out
I did look for a link to the color codes, but didn't find anything

Thanks guys, i am well chuffed with them and will leave as is (at least until the rims need a split and polish again).
Sun has come out, torn... dont know if to get the car out or get the microlight out and do a little fly. Choices are not always a bad thing. Might try and do both!

Re: Opinions please rc090... to change middle or not?
Got her out on the road yesterday.
Wasnt sure if the difference would be worth the £1,050 they cost all in but wow.. car feels totally alive. Touch softer if anything on the straight but corners are so precise and best described as 'safe'. The TRX are many years old, despite still having 4mm tread left the rubber is not the best and they never inspired confidence. New Michelin PS4 though, complete transformation.
Should have done it years ago. Anyone still on TRX, dont be - change them!
The TRX will sit in the garage in storage just in case but i would not want to go back to them for any proper driving.
