Exact spec on BBS RS metric 415mm 3 piece wheels.

Post by GazM3 »

Hey chaps.

It looks like there is a local supplier that can spin up some high quality and moderate cost inner and outer barrels for BBS RS wheels.

Im looking at doing a set of 18" triple step wheels making them out of the original 3 piece centers. I will have a much greater choice of modern rubber in wider fitments up to 275, as the widest tyre I can get in Michelin PSS in 17" is 245, which will be too stretchy on my current 10" rims. Also the relativly light weight of Original BBS RS wheels will minimise the nasty's that can occur with an oversize heavy wheel.

I need to confirm the exact width and offset to do my calculations. New specs I was thinking about:

Front: 18x9 et-12 (or 18x9.5 et-6) running a set of 245/40/18 perhaps
Rear: 18x10.5 et+3 , running a set of 265/40, or 275/40 or 275/35

The current 17" need spacers to clear the brakes and inner strut. These were originally BBS RS302 fitement for E36 chassis. Specs including spacers for the current wheels are:
Front 17x9 et -12 (incl 15mm spacer), wearing a 225/45/17 tyre
Rear 17x10 et -2 (incl 12mm spacer), wearing a 255/40/17 tyre

I have currently about 5mm room on the front to the inner strut tower and a reasonable amount of room to the guard, on the rear I have heaps of room to the shock/inner wheel arch ( can fit spacerless easily) but its pretty marginal to the inner guard lip. I can roll these if need be.

Im running -2 front camber by means of an offset roll center adjustment block. I can get a little more front camber by using a fixed IE camber plate to get around -2.75deg which will be still fine for road use, and have great turn in as well. The car is pretty balanced with the current staggered setup as ive replaced the front bar to a slightly thinner one combined with the healthy -2deg camber and front/rear shock stress bars. I also run upgraded powerflex bushes and all other front suspension is upgraded to heavy duty items. Im yet to do the rears, will probably do them at some stage when I weld in the camber and toe adjustment bolts.

The OEM metric wheel does spacers to clear brakes - Obviously.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

And yes, they are 3 piece not the 1 piece as mentioned in a recent thread.

Interesting project, Gaz, and look forward to seeing the end result.

I would love to help you, but in order to do so, can you just summarise (to someone like me who is not particularly bright) exactly what is it you are asking for?

Hehe.

My mind was going 100mph when posting.

Found that BBS RS 007 are 16.3" dia and 8.26" et15.

I guess I better pull the old trx's off and measure the inner and outer lips of the metric bbs' and base my measurements from there
