E24 wheels

Post by ilouie »

Hi, I was wondering if someone can enlighten me. I have not been able to find BBS style rims to fit the e24. The one I found has a front offset of 30mm, and the rear of 20mm. 17x8.5 and 17x9.5. I was told that they would not fit. Has anyone come across this set up?. I just did the H&R springs but can’t find the rims I’m looking for. I did find some M Parallel rims but I still want the mesh look. Thanks in advance.

Have you seen this thread? It should give you some ideas about what sizes to look for, and keep looking, you'll find what you want.

Those rims would fit, just buy spacers and maybe hub rings if the hub is bigger than 72.6.... Hub rings very cheap, spacers maybe 100$ or something.

I'm taking a safer approach. Mine came with the 415's (Metric) and I have decided to change. Looking at all of the options, I was initially gonna go for some 17" staggered, but having spoken to one or two people - they tell me that the e24's don't drive terribly well and can tramline etc.

So at this stage I'm fitting some Style 8's from the e38 with 225/50/16 tyres.

What is the score with these reported poor drive and tram lining issues? Does this happen and is there a way around it? Does poly-bushing all round help?

From my experience, you will not improve on the style 8s with 225/50/16 tyres. I loved them on my car and I loved 16s in alpina and Hartge (st aggered) too. I've also used 16" style 32 and style 5 from e39 too.

I have tried 17" alpina and style 32 in staggered format and did not like them as much as any of the 16s. I currently have 17" staggered splits from an 8er on the M because they look so good, but they are nothing like as nice to drive.

This is something I have said before and it's just my two penn'orth.

Style 8s are ace!

Pilybushed upper arms: no problem. Polybushed rear beam bushes and great handling but horrendous crashy ride.

Thanks for the reply. I'll stick to the 16's then!! I will have some reasonably good slightly worn 415GT TRX's (Michelin) for sale soon - just the tyres as I will keep the rims.

Will do mate - should be about 2-3 weeks. My car is almost done. Just waiting for that ruddy Sunroof seal. Can't believe that all of BMW's stock is too short (1700mm instead of 2370mm) europe wide.

I think I’m correct in stating that there are two different BMW applications for the sunroof seals. One is a single-piece, the other consists of two separate pieces. Maybe this is what you are reporting?

Managed to get it - it is one piece. BMW Germany had to get in touch with their supplier, who was supplying the incorrect size. All fitted now. Car should be coming back to me next week \:D/
