Need shorter outer lip for HRE 504/Hayashi Techno R 16"

Post by mtooze »

I have an 88 BMW M6 with HRE 504/Hayashi Techno R 16" mounted. Like the wheels, but the front wheels sit a little too proud of the wheel arches for my taste. I don't want new wheels, but want to have these refinished (the car is at the end of a 3 year rehab). The only things that can be done are

1. Find a shorter outer lip? Its a standard 20 hole 16" lip (I think that seems pretty standard). I've looked around on the web and can find quite a few places selling lips, but I really dont have a clue whats what, so could use a few pointers to experienced wheel shops.

2. Cut/weld/polish my existing lips an inch or so narrower (I already sent pics to Weldcraft to see if they can help).

Any other tips ideas?

Perhaps if u have lots of meat on where it attaches to the hub get a machine shop to mull them down. Providing u have enough clearance to the inner strut and brake hardware. It would be a shame to lose the lip dish. If no good yes just get another 2 thinner dishes made.

Well I solved my problem by simply buying a set of already finished BBS style 5's, which means the HREs are going on chopping block. Ill get them unmounted...

Make what you think is a fair offer!

Did you ever move these wheels? I have a set on my M5 and love them. Would like another set as well.
