BBS style 5 wheel

I have a non lowered 87 M6 red in color. It currently has a later model 16" wheel with some high profile tires. Ride is good, but the look is a little too cruiser for me. I am thinking of going with the 17" BBS wheel and 235/45/17 tires.

My question.....do you think the gold centered wheel or the polished silver wheel looks better with a red car? I am leaning towards polished. I think the gold may be too much.

This is the style I am talking about. Gold like this or polished? Thanks!

Like the wheels, not sure about gold inserts on a red car though.

I don't understand why I like gold and silver together on BBS wheels - I'd hate it in any other context!

I am very tempted to go gold and silver, like this chap has done:

Put off these with the non-bbs bolts though - yuk! Very much like the RC090 for the front (offset of 20, just right) and RC009 on the back (offset of 10, just right to fill those capacious arches a little more!)

Colour coordination is not my thing (just ask the misses!) .. I reckons for a red car then a set of nice polished silver / chrome wheels would work nicely.

Now those gold centered BBS with the red insert, dark car could wear them? They do look nice and retro and something different.

My set of RC090 have gold bolts fitted that are corroding and need to come out. Need to get £150 organised and source a replacement chrome set and swap them out.. slightly reluctant to do so as they are bound to start rusting again within a year.

Went with BMW style 5 wheels. After checking around, I ended up getting them from the dealer. They gave me a good price and there wasn't any shipping charges. 235/45/17 with michelin pilot sport A/s. Feels a little tighter, but not a big difference in driving from the 16" wheels. I do think they look better.

The hardware on these are not a bright gold finish but more of a yellow zinc/cad plate. Doesnt show in the picture.

Might need a little less spring in the suspension!

That's true but they look really good against the polished rims. I had all of my original hardware chromed but think I should have gone with the yellow cad

Looks excellent.

Out of curiosity do you mind letting us know what the dealer charged for the set?

I am pleased. Look even better in person.

I paid 2k for 5 wheels with center caps and valve stems. Most of the places I found were around 2-2.5k plus shipping for 4 refinished wheels. Some places had mixed reviews, so I just decided to go new. BMW inventory showed 9 in stock, so I left someone a set of 4.

that's a great price for 5 of those wheels.. as you say they go for more than that second hand / refurbed.

Tempted to call BMW and see if they have any in Europe :-k

Ben,
They had to be shipped from Germnany to my dealer here in the states. It took a few weeks to get them. Call a dealer if you want some.

Current fashion in wheels seems to be gunmetal grey or black.

In my experience wheels with colored centers tend to be a bit polarizing; you either love 'em or hate 'em.

A few years ago I restored a set of BBS RS061s that I was going to use on my E28. I debated whether to go with silver or gold centers, but when the time came I chose gold because I thought they'd look nice with the E28's Zinno color. In the end I decided I wanted more of a factory-type look, so I sold the RS061s and kept the M5 wheels (in original silver) that were already on the car. Gold centers look great on some cars (especially with certain shades of red) but give a car a definite aftermarket appearance, if that's your thing.
