Removing rear parcel shelf clam shell hinge hardware

Post by DRPM635CSi »

I'm upgrading from stock hinged clam shell speaker housings in the rear to premium fixed clam shell housings. Obviously as they aren't needed anymore, I want to remove the hinging hardware from the car to accompany the old stock shells when I go to sell them on. How do I do this? Is it best done from above by removing the rear seats and the parcel shelf board itself, or is done from underneath inside the boot by removing that black trim panel underneath the metal parcel shelf panel above the boot lid torsion bar springs?

It's all done from inside the car.You cannot get to it from inside the boot.

Remove the upper seat belt mounts and lower both rear windows!!

Searching for some info, this partly answers my question - its such a a bastard of a place to work in.

How are the speaker pod hinges fixed to the parcel shelf card. I'm picking they are riveted, and the carpet is glued to the card - yes?

(I have one seat out and the front of one pod out)

Sometimes, the studs and nuts seize up. The stud then shears.

Ask me how I know....

How do you know?

Sorry.

Second the rear window access, it is mandatory. I still have twinges and aches from changing my pods about a year ago. Funny thing is that I did not like the new ones and the put the old ones back. Ha, ha...
