Sport Seat Memory

Post by ron madden »

I purchased a pair of sport seats for my 635. I was informed that the seats might have memory for sitting position. Does anyone know what I should look for so I can determined if they do in fact have this option. Thanks for your help.

The memory seats have an extra piece between the seat motors and the drive cables that count the cable revolutions to keep track of the seat position (Ref #10 and 11). Then in the wiring there would be the Memory module and the memory buttons that go in the center console.

The memory seat has a much larger control unit. About 10 inches wide by 5 inches deep. Non-memory seat has a small 5 inch by 5 inch control unit. I've never seen a passenger seat with memory so compare the control units of the two seats and see if they are different. Unfortunately you cannot plug your harness into a memory seat if you do not have the memory function.

Would it be possible or very involved to get the memory function working w/an electric sport seat that doesn't have those parts? Could I cannibalize the comfort seat?

Considering picking up on old set of sport seats tomorrow.

Straight forward swap of control units under the seat to make a non-memory seat work in a memory car. You will need the control unit and all the parts Chris W. noted.

A little more difficult to fit and function memory seats in a non-memory car. I'm sure some wire splicing will do the trick but I've not BTDT. I just make sure the car and seat are compatible when doing the swap.

If I know the seats came out of an '85 Csi and I'm putting them in an '87 L6.. can I be "sure" they are compatible just based on that fact?

Thanks

Seats will fit physically but the memory function has to be considered. AFAIK the memory function was an option on the 85s (my Zinno auto with sport seats has it and my Alpine manual with comfort seats does not). Anymore than that I am not aware of.

Any chance of posting a picture of the memory switch in place. Mine was disconnected and I want to reinstall it but don't know where it should go.

Thanks,
