Blower Transistor
So it appears that normgrills.net is down. All the links I have used in the past no longer work. I need to replace my heater blower transistor, normgrills had the correct number, but I cant access it. Does anyone have this number so I can go to my local electronics store and pick up this transistor? Thanks
Jorden

normgrills is not just down but out in a new direction it seems....
I found this post but I don't know if it is accurate or not

Here are two pictures of what a new transistor board looks like from BMW:

Yes, the original transistors are 2N3055 (10A). The replacements are a 2N3771 (15A). Here is the Norm Grills page captured by the Wayback Machine:

BTW all the original picture thumbnails still appear on a Google search of the Normgrills page (normgrills blower transistor), but obviously don't click through properly....

Hmm .... I just tried it again and the pics came up.
Maybe you have to make an original search on the Wayback Machine:

You know, I am still on dial-up and have a large cache set on my browser to help download speed. I think I still get the photo's because they are still in the cache !?! (IIRC, I visited this link just a week or so ago).Brucey wrote:good idea but still no-go for some reason. how odd......
is it just me then?
cheers
I "downloaded" the page while the photos were up, now all I have to do if figure the easiest way to turn it into a PDF (I think the Mac will "Print" the page direct to a PDF file).

Wow, was that ever easy to change....
I now have a fan that blows air at different speeds.
Thanks for the info about the transistor, got one for $3.98.
A bit of a PIA to get it off the board, but a drill, a soldering iron and a rivet gun and it works.... Gota love this forum, saves me so much $$
DIY all the way....

Good News .... Normgrills seems to be up and running again, that was a bit of a scare.
IIRC, a resistor was added across the Base and Emitter pins to run the heater blower at a very low speed like the A/C blower was already set up to do. The originals didn't have it?
I was just wondering what that black thing was that appears to be inline with the base pin?

It is the backside of the new replacement Heater Blower Transistor plates being supplied, I nicked the photo from nick88highline's post above which has photos of both sides. The ETM just calls it "Heater, Final Stage" but only shows the transistor.Brucey wrote:Chris,
forgive my stupid question but which part is this? Is it from the control end, identified as 'solid state' on the ETM diagram? Or is it a part that isn't shown at all on the ETM?
cheers

Re: Blower Transistor
I know this is a necro post, but I figured out what the little thing under the black clip is - it's a thermal breaker. It's made by a company named Uchiya and breaks at 110 degree Celsius. In case anyone wants to know...

The NormGrills page looks like it's permanently gone, but the content and pics are still available via the wayback machine:
https://web.archive.org/web/20080307121 ... sistor.htm
I've would attached a PDF export of the page for posterity, but the forum has a 2MB file size limit
PM me if you'd like a copy.
Also, the 2N3xxx series transistors have apparently gone end-of-life from , so it might be worth stocking up on a handful.
The original transistors are 2N3055 (10A).
Suitable replacements are:
2N3773 (15A)
2N3771G (30A)
I just bought a pair of 2N3771G components from https://au.element14.com/search?st=2n3771g for AU$12.28 each for shipping to Australia.
Ebay has heaps of sellers too, but all with unknown shipping times from China.
