Hi folks
I am trying to see if the Polk db461 or db461p will replace stock foot-wall front speaker elements . Attach pic of the Polk . Mounting depth is 51mm roughly 2" . Anyone tried fitting these speakers ? if it works I will just order a pair and try it this weekend
Goal is purely to replace stock speaker elements with a bit "better sound" speakers .

IIRC the front speaker mount has behind it a depression with a central hole in the sheet metal that is meant for a teeny-weeny magnet of a 1976-vintage loudspeaker.
The best 6x4s currently available (e.g. 'HK infinity') don't fit into this recess without spacers or cutting of the sheet metal. I have a horrible feeling that a 2" depth, off centre, is a big ask for the speaker mounting.
Do let us know how you get on.
cheers

I have them in mine. (12/1984 e28 based model) They fit just but I haven't put the factory covers on.
They do sound so much better but need bigger rears or a subwoofer as they don't have much bass.

dB461
I've got the dB461's installed in the front on both cars, but I cut a hole in the plastic grill to give the tweeter room as it sticks out a bit. Let us know if you try the plate versions. Retrosound 4x6's fit well in the rear for the non premium pods, but I have yet to try fitting them in the front.

I don't remember the model#, but I used Pioneer speakers up front. The magnets were too large for the holes, so I opened them up with a die grinder. Next problem is the inner cones of the speakers stuck out too far. I went to my local plastic shop and had them make up 1/4" spacers and laminate them to the original speaker grilles. All fits well and looks as original. Cost was $12 and a perfect fit.

For about $4 you can purchase a factory spacer. I did not need them on the fronts for my e24 but did on the e28. The spacer is designed to work with the factory grill and is about 10mm thick.

How about a set of these if available on the US?
Shallow depth so should suit the footwell space nicely
